Where have I been inconsistent?

In my opinion classing Pulis's successful start as a honeymoon period isn't a consistent way to compare managers. That's what myself and others have suggested and I would stand by the logic of it.

I agree with you about the average dropping this season as the stats don't lie. As I said in my original post, comparing like for like without dismissing a period of time as a honeymoon period he's on track as our most successful coach to date in the Premier League.

Ok I thought you meant I had been inconsistent in what I had said. I've actually been saying the same thing in this thread and across others: that results this season haven't been that good. You're right that dismissing a period of time would not be a fair way to compare managers' career points averages. However I wasn't comparing one manager to another, I was making the point that Pulis' points average this season was not very good, and that looking at his overall average was flattering him. To use a more extreme example, Mourinho's points average over his whole career is obviously very good, but that doesn't mean Chelsea were doing well this season.

Having said all of this, we have just won 2 games on the trot so we are suddenly looking quite comfortable again, but before the Newcastle game we were beginning to flirt with relegation which is what my concern was.

Another stat.
West Brom under TP against Stoke. Played 3 won 3
This is our bogey team who we could never beat.
Isn't it about time that TP starts getting a bit of credit eh ?
May you say results haven't been that good this season. Again I ask what results haven't been good this season or indeed since TP took over ?
I look at that table and can't see many sides I would expect us to finish higher than but several below us that we are doing well to be above.
Just seems that some just can't be pleased ?
Still, I've got a beer in my hand and am a happy bunny.

I genuinely believe that TP is doing a grand job at the Albion.

He sorted us out pronto last year and kept us up without breaking too much sweat. He has worked very hard on the fitness and discipline in the club and has built from the back. Something most people would agree, is the right approach in rebuilding a team. Even if it seems to have taken time to get to this stage - but maybe there was plenty of ill discipline to desl with before he could trust a more attacking game.

Clearly, unlike many weak managers, he takes no crap from players. They earn a fortune and he expects them to be dedicated to the club that pays them and respect the fellow players and the fans that support them. If they don't then they don't play - the only way to deal with players who don't care too much about the carrot of match appearance money.

Now, as this transfer windows opens up, I am wondering whether a foreign footballer looking to the Premiership looks at West Brom this year as a good mid table club to sign for and show off his skills. We are hard to beat, we have taken big scalps, and we have a need for their skills and so first team football is very possible for a new arrival - they will be adding value.

Very different to a few years ago when we were a relegation risk and where a fight to survive was almost certainly on the cards for any new players

I, too, think TP is doing a grand job; just about my only reservations are regarding square pegs in round holes, and flair players.
Regarding the latter I realise we're not privvy to what goes on at the club, but I worry that TP has a reputation of not playing 'flair' players, and therefor we will struggle to attract any that would fall into this category

Have just read this in an article by Jon Want:

"Despite the criticism he gets from me and others about his style of play and use of the squad, you cannot argue with Pulis’s results over time. Although appointed, he did not take charge of the match against West Ham on New Year’s Day 2015, so it is only now that he has completed a full 38 Premier League games in charge and under his management, Albion have amassed 52 points – I think we’d all take that come the end of the season, but for how long will the Albion faithful take points over entertainment?"

Well, you certainly can't knock a 52 point season after inheriting a team that looked doomed (Mr Mainwairing), surely??  Confused
