Bad tackles I can accept, if they are dealt with properly and a meaningful deterrent is in place. In this case, and in more than a few since Oduwa came to Scotland, neither has happened. It now appears that it's open season on Oduwa - kick him as much as you want, then justify it afterwards by saying "ah, but he's English" or "he's acting the big man and needs cut down to size". This isn't a solitary incident remember, the furore started by Alloa's Colin Hamilton after Oduwa disrespected him so heinously by actually losing the ball to him, has led to this attitude prevailing among too many.
There's a bigger picture behind all this though. Is our game so good that we can afford to literally kick every last bit of skill out of our young players? Our national team, and our European club co-efficient slump seems to suggest not. We need more skill, not less or none at all. Unless attitudes - at grass roots level and among the common supporters - change then, like the Neanderthals, our game will slowly die out.
And when that happens Paignton, who will you blame? Rangers or Oduwa?
Trus, it may well be noticed at Chelsea but believe me, I live in England and in the pubs I frequent it hasnae even been mentioned so just maybe he' no as important as ye seem tae think. Havnae even heard anybody trying tae justify it by saying" ah, but he's English ". And, as I said, nae body on here has condoned the tackle. I've been watching fitba' for more years than I care tae remember and a' the good teams have/ have had an enforcer, or in pure terms, a dirty bastard. Even yours. Have a good evening
