The Pilgrims set sail for Yorkshire this weekend with both sides looking to navigate their way back to winning ways in the League. A good start for Town has turned into a clattering of oars and catching of many crabs over the last few weeks, not to mention injuries, whilst Argyle got off to a bad start, showed a glimour of a recovery and then reverted to early season form. Town have sunk to 9th, from an early season 2nd and are 6 points behind the play-off places. Argyle are back dredging around the bottom 4 in 22nd place but also only 6 points behind Town. They could also be getting that sinking feeling again, but their season just may flower once again, but let's hope it starts after this weekend.

On the tellybox

My favourite TV website says not but it's been wrong before. Otherwise HTTV for furrin subscribers, Bet365 if that's your thing or dodgy stick channels that haven't been shut down yet.

Out Injured/Suspended/Isolating

This could take a while - we've a whole starting 11 out now, if one of them wants to play in goals. From the presser as translated by Mr. Chicken, with typo's fixed or made worse by me.

Alfie May is suspended for the next two league games but has picked up a lower leg injury anyway, which kept him out of Tuesday’s clash with Mansfield. The forward had a scan on Tuesday and it is hoped he will be able to be back in training next week.

Joe Low also missed the Mansfield game, with a calf injury. He is very unlikely to appear against Plymouth this weekend. Low is hoped to be back available after the international break, or shortly thereafter.

Lynden Gooch has a calf injury too. He had a scan on Monday that did not reveal any major damage. He has not been back in training yet this week it is hoped he might be available to play a part this weekend.

Jack Whatmough had hoped to be back from his calf injury already but suffered a setback in his recovery. And any guesses on David Kasumu’s injury? Yep, calf, you got it. Both players could be looking at returns on the other side of the international break.

Antony Evans also hit a bump in the road (not literally, we assume) on his recovery from a knee injury and is also looking like missing the Plymouth game at the very least.

Leo Castledine is out with the shoulder injury he suffered at Wycombe and is likely to keep him out for the next few weeks.

Murray Wallace remains sidelined with a foot injury, and Marcus McGuane is still working his way back from a long lay-off with a groin issue.

Will Alves, Herbie Kane and Zepiqueno Redmond are all long-term absentees.

Back training but not oven ready/Back in the frame

Well there were hopes for a few of them above .... looks like we'll have a few kids on the bench and we might make the fewest changes ever after an EFL Trophy game. We've still got Friday's training and Saturday's warm up to injure a few more.

Last time out

We finally won one. Mansfield made the short journey from the northern end of Sherwood Forest on the back of a 3:2 home win to Harrogate in the FA Cup and a run of 5 games unbeaten in the League.

After 5 defeats in all competitons Town came out with their pop-guns blazing. Dion Charles finally got the monkey off his back when the ball ballooned off some part of his body over the keeper and into the net in the 3rd minute. The ("cough") net buster he needed to lift the grey clouds that had settled around his head. Laugh

2-0 up at half-time after Feeney poked the ball in from a yard out, Town took the tea urn with the mogadon in it again into their dressing room at half-time and Mansfield had one back in the first minute of the 2nd half. However, The Stags, who played in the first half like Town have played in far too many games this season, failed to build on the momentum (despite being a place above Town after the last set of League fixtures) and reverted to playing like Town for the rest of the match. Charles had had a 2nd chalked off for off-side in the first half but buried a header from Ledson's cross in the 84th minute to win the tie and send Town through to the "Round of 32". There's still a shed load of fixtures to be played before the 2nd round is drawn.

Plymouth played at Wycombe last weekend and lost 2-0 in the FA Cup 1st Round.

At least that was in a clash between two League 1 sides, as were Town losing at Bolton and Cardiff losing at cellar dwellers Pish Posh. Plenty of other League 1 sides lost to lower league opponents last weekend, though the telebox boys were mostly distracted elsewhere. In no particular order of shock value, Sadfud lost at Cheltenham Laugh, Reading lost to Carlisle (AET), Lincoln lost at Salford on penalties, Oldham beat Northampton, Rotherham were beaten by Swindon (AET), The Spirites won at Stevenage Thumb up. Special mention to AFC Wimbledon for being the only League 1 side to lose to a National League side, 0:2 at home to Gateshead.

Look what we could have won.

Bolton got drawn away to Swindon, (those roundabouts, Doh) and Plymouth could have had another local derby at Halifax Town's conquerors, Exeter.

North of the border Celtic, managed again by Martin O'Neill, who has taken his slippers off for a few weeks, beat Rangers, led by former Wendies boss Danny Röhl 3:1 in the Scottish League Cup Semi. (St. Mirren in the final). They then flew over the North Sea to Legoland and lost by the same score to Midtjylland. Some up and coming youngster called Phil Billing gave them the run around in midfield. We should keep an eye on him, we're a bit short on lanky midfielders at the moment.

Tables

Bonus tables this weekend.

Plymouth started with 4 straight defeats following relegation. They then won three of the next 4 before going on a run of a loss, a win, a draw and then losing their last 3 league games.

Musical Interlude

A Google search for "famous musicians plymouth devon" throws up famous dancers such as Wayne Sleep and, er, Angela Rippon. Who knew?

Wot? A Muddled England band from Devon - well, not quite but apparently Dave Hill is from Devon. Tenuous link, his family moved to Wolvo when he was one year old, which at least explains his accent.

Fishermens Friends
OK, not striclty Plymouth, or Devon, but from that funny bit next door that sticks out into the Atlantic, but they play a lot of gigs in Plymouth. Apparently. Whistle

The Sack Race

Well here we go again. I don't do a thread for a couple of weeks and The Chairlumps of English football lose their sh.. heads again.

A few short weeks after signing a 3 year contract Vitor Pereira departed Wolves, saying he should have left in the Summer. He wouldn't have a 3 year contract's worth of payments to come though if he had (or whatever his contract says he's owed). Until his next job obvs. I can confirm he used to go for a pint in the pubs in Wolvo as he was sat on the table next to mine in one of my locals the other week. It was only when he was getting pestered for autographs that I realised it was him, such is the notice I take of Wolves. It all got rather toxic rather quickly however.

Wolves being Wolves with no plan, first of all went back to the bloke they sacked before him, Gary O'Niel. Well, they are probably still paying him off too. He soon got wind of the lack of support from the fans (down right hostile again to be honest) on local soshul meedja and bailed while he was still ringing around his mates for coaching jobs. Then they made a move for Rob Edwards at Boro, but were quickly told to, er, look elsewhere (rhymes with "cough" in Smoggieland). The bookies still have him down as favourite so they must know something we don't or they've not heard any other whispers worth changing their odds for.

Vitor Pereira was quickly joined at the job Centre by Will Still at Sarfamton. Two wins following relegation from the Prima Donna League did for him. Current bookies fave for this job is someone called Gary O'Niel.

Last week in our division, Leam Richardson took over at Reading and Luke Williams at Pish Posh and er, well one of them won at the weekend and the other one won last night. Smartass

Innies and Outies

A few bailed from The Mayflower when they were relegated last season, though they got a few quid for them in return. They spent some of that on bringing in Lorent Tolaj from Port Vale.

Who's banging 'em in

That worked out reasonably well as Tolaj is their leading scorer on 5. If only they could defend.

They can't all win

Reading won 1:0 last night at home to Stevenage in a televised game that was probably largely ignored elsewhere in the country as it was a European night.

Northampton play Mansfield and Wycombe play Orient in the early kick-offs/telebox games. Well Sky have promised to show each club a minimum number of times so games like these are bound to pop up.

At the top, Stockport are home to Luton, Bradford are home Burton then there's a bunch of top v bottom games. Cardiff are at Blackpool, Pish Posh are at home to The Wombles, Bolton are home to Port Vale. In amongst all that Lincoln go to Rotherham and we have another Yorksha League derby with Doncaster at home to Barnsley.

We've played 'em before

Two seasons back, when we played each other in the division above, the first match of the seaon was in Colin's back yard and Plymouth won 3-1, with the return fixture a 1-1 draw. Town were relegated at the end of the season, but Plymouth stayed up, mostly on the back of the 19 goals scored by Morgan Whittaker. Despite only scoring 3 for Plymouth last season, Boro came waving wads of cash and smuggled goods from Teesside that could be stashed in the caves along the Devon coast last January. That didn't work out too well for either side as Whittaker never scored for Boro in the League either and without his goals, Plymouth eventually sunk into League 1. Whittaker got the Boro monkey off his back in October, scoring in successive wins against Ipswich and Wendies.

Otherwise Town are ahead in the fixture by a few games.

Next up?

As it's another International weekend, Town's game at Cardiff next weekend has been moved to Cup R2 weekend in December. our next League match is at Mansfield in 2 weeks time.

Pressers.

Lee Grant doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon based on Kevin the Gerbil's comments, so he and Ryan Lesdon get the hard questions from Town's website after doing the easy one's from Radio Local.

Nice one theo.

Did you know Martin O'Neil has brought a familiar face in to assist him at Celtic? A tubby wee Scotsman who we had as head coach recently.
