Notts County winger Jodi Jones has signed a two-year contract extension with the League Two club, keeping him at Meadow Lane until the summer of 2027.

The 26-year-old Malta international was last month crowned the Professional Footballers' Association's League Two player of the year, having already collected the English Football League (EFL) award as the division's best player last season.

Last term he scored six goals and provided 24 assists - which saw him surpass Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne and former Arsenal star Thierry Henry's record for the most assists in an English season, with 20.

He has maintained that fine form this season, providing three assists and scoring two goals in four league matches so far for a Notts side that are second in the fourth tier.

Notts County have signed winger Will Jarvis from Hull City for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 22-year-old made seven appearances for the Championship side this season after spending much of 2024 on loan with League of Ireland Premier Division club Shelbourne.

He scored 11 goals in 37 top-flight appearances for Shelbourne, who he also featured for in the Europa Conference League qualifiers in August before returning to Hull.

"Will has been one of our top transfer targets for some time now," Notts director Richard Montague told the club website., external

"While we're very confident Will can make an immediate impact, with regular game time in our system we feel he has the potential to significantly improve and climb the leagues with us."

Notts are sixth in the League Two table, just two points adrift of the automatic promotion spots after 24 games.

Notts County have signed Sunderland defender Zak Johnson on loan for the remainder of the season and young Everton midfielder Charlie Whitaker on a six-month contract.

Johnson came off the bench in the Black Cats' FA Cup third round defeat to Stoke City on Saturday, his fourth senior appearance for the club after progressing through the Academy of Light.

Whitaker, who has been with the Toffees since the age of 12 after starting out at Blackburn Rovers, has scored seven goals in nine PL2 games this season and arrives on a free transfer.

They both join a Magpies team currently sixth in League Two, just two points off the automatic promotion spots, but having lost players to injury over the festive period, including defenders Lucas Ness and Lewis Macari.

Johnson's development as a prospect on Wearside earned him a call-up to the England Under 18s squad in 2023, and he went on to captain the Three Lions to victory in a match against Australia.

"With Lucas likely to miss the remainder of the season and Lewis facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines, it was important for us to add another defender to the squad to ensure we have adequate depth for the run-in," County's director Richard Montague told the club's website, external.

"Charlie is another young, high-potential player who we've been monitoring for some time. While we think he's best suited to central attacking areas, he's versatile and comfortable playing out wide.

He added: "Charlie has demonstrated a genuine goal threat throughout his youth career and has the technical ability, pace and tenacity to be a real handful."

Sunderland's academy manager, Robin Nicholls, said: "Zak is at a stage in his career where he has gained some excellent experiences, with two senior loans and a youth international selection under his belt."

Notts County have signed forward Mai Traore from Norwegian club Fredrikstad for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old from Guinea has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract, with the option of another year in the club's favour.

Traore first moved to Scandinavia when he joined Swedish club Vasalunds IF and he scored 23 goals in 29 games in 2020, leading to a move to Norway with Viking FK.

He joined Fredrikstad last January and has played more than 60 games in the Norwegian top flight.

"Mai is a really exciting signing for us, bringing pace, power and an eye both for goals and assists," said Notts director Richard Montague.

"He's very effective in the press, his link-up play is strong and he's left footed, which adds another dimension for us at the top of the pitch.

"While his performances in Scandinavia indicate that he's more than capable of making an immediate impact for us, we feel he has huge potential to improve."

Notts are currently third in League Two and at home to Morecambe on Saturday.

Prolific veteran striker David McGoldrick has been offered a new deal to remain at Notts County beyond the summer.

The 37-year-old was said to be in head coach Stuart Maynard's "plans for next season", but the tabling of a contract offer has now been confirmed.

In March, McGoldrick told BBC Radio Nottingham that he hoped his performances would earn him another deal at Meadow Lane.

He was Notts' second highest scorer with 17 goals as the Magpies finished sixth in the table, taking his tally to 30 goals in 76 appearances since he returned to his boyhood club for a third spell in the summer of 2023.

Injury meant the former Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Derby County forward missed their season-ending play-off semi-final second-leg defeat by AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

"He is incredible, we want him to be at the club," Maynard said of McGoldrick after Saturday's loss at Plough Lane.

Midfielder Sam Austin, who featured 28 times in the 2024-25 season, is among a quartet of the Magpies' promotion-winning National League side who have been let go.

Former captain Kyle Cameron and Adam Chicksen - two players that spent much of the past season out on loan - as well as goalkeeper Sam Slocombe were all part of the side that returned Notts to the English Football League two years ago.

"While it's sad to be saying farewell to four players who were such important figures in our 2022-23 promotion season, they leave us with many fantastic memories," the club said in a statement on its website, external.

Attacking midfielder Charlie Whitaker, goalkeeper Tyler Miller and defender Robbie Cundy have also been released.

David McGoldrick has rejected the offer of a new contract at Notts County, the club have confirmed.

The 37-year-old former Republic of Ireland international forward, who returned to his boyhood club in 2023, scored 17 goals in 35 appearances this season as the Magpies reached the League Two play-offs.

McGoldrick has scored 180 goals in a career spanning more than 600 appearances across more than 20 seasons and counts Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Coventry City, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Derby County among his former clubs.

His final appearance for County came in the play-off semi-final first-leg defeat against Wimbledon at Meadow Lane, where he limped off late on with an injury that ruled him out of the return leg, which the Dons also won 1-0.

A statement from the Magpies board of directors read, external: "While we're of course disappointed to be losing a player of David's quality and character, he leaves having given us many fantastic memories over the last two years.

"Unfortunately we have been unable to reach an agreement on this occasion, but everyone at Meadow Lane thanks David wholeheartedly for his charismatic performances, wonderful goals, leadership and dedication.

"It was special to see him realise his dream of returning to Meadow Lane and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his brilliant career."

McGoldrick has been strongly linked with a move to County's League Two rivals MK Dons who are managed by his former Rams boss Paul Warne and this week completed the signing of McGoldrick's former team-mate Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Notts County have signed Matthew Dennis on a three-year deal after the forward rejected the offer of a new contract at Carlisle United.

The 23-year-old scored six goals in 14 appearances in his four months with Carlisle, but it was not enough to help the Cumbrians avoid relegation to the National League.

He moved to Brunton Park to join the relegation fight after being released by MK Dons in February, having previously spent part of the 2024-25 season on loan in the National League with Rochdale.

Dennis' arrival comes just days after the Magpies lost prolific veteran striker David McGoldrick, who himself turned down the offer a new contract with his boyhood club after netting 17 goals last term.

Notts' head of football Roberto Gagliardi says Dennis' performances and goals in League Two last term "prove he is more than capable of making an immediate impact" at Meadow Lane.

The forward, who spent time on the books at Arsenal and Norwich City as a youth player, is Notts' first signing since the sacking of head coach Stuart Maynard.

"Signing as a free agent, we believe he represents excellent value," Gagliardi said.

"And we're delighted to have beaten a number of other clubs, including some from higher divisions, to his signature."

Notts County have signed midfielder Tom Iorpenda on a season-long loan from League One club Huddersfield Town.

The 20-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Terriers since making his first-team debut in a 5-0 FA Cup third-round defeat at Manchester City in January 2024.

While he featured 12 times across all competitions in an injury-hit 2024-25 campaign, he is yet to start a league match for Huddersfield.

Iorpenda first joined the West Yorkshire club's youth ranks from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2021, and has previously spent time out on loan with non-league side Hyde United.

He joins a managerless Notts side that fell short of League Two promotion at the play-off semi-final stage in May and comes in to replace George Abbott, who spent last term on loan at Meadow Lane from Premier League side Tottenham.

"We're pleased to offer another highly promising young player a fantastic platform to show what they can do," Notts' head of football Roberto Gagliardi told the club website., external

"He has all the qualities you look for in a modern-day, dynamic midfielder and we're excited to work with him to help us achieve our objectives."
