Newport County have signed Newcastle United midfielder Jamie Miley on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club in the summer of 2022, eight years after linking up with the Premier League side's youth set-up.

Miley was part of Newcastle's Under-18 side which reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2020-21, before captaining them the following season when they reached the fifth round.

He went on to make his debut for the Under-21 side at the age of 17 in the Papa John's Trophy, before making his senior bow for Eddie Howe's side in a friendly against Hull City in July 2024.

Miley then made his first senior appearance at St James’ Park a month later in a 4-0 pre-season win against La Liga side Girona.

“I felt Newport was the right place to come for my first loan,’’ said Miley, who is the brother of Newcastle’s teenage regular and England Under-20 international Lewis Miley.

“It’s going to be a good opportunity for me and a great experience.

“There was interest from Newport at the beginning of the transfer window and from that point on I started keeping a close eye on the club.

“I watched their first couple of games, and I could see there was a change in playing style, philosophy and a promotion goal.

“I think the style will suit my game. I’m predominately a holding midfielder, but I can play a more attacking role if needed.

“I trained with the Newcastle first team during pre-season, and then when I spoke to the manager (Howe) he felt it was the right thing for me to go out on loan and experience first-team football in a tough environment.

“The aim now is to do as well as I can and prove myself to the players, management, fans and help get the club as high as possible to achieve its goals."

Miley follows fellow young midfielder Noah Mawene in joining Newport on loan, with the League Two side announcing the 19-year-old's signing from Preston North End earlier on Thursday.

Newport County have signed Norwich City centre-back Jaden Warner on an 18-month deal.

Warner, 22, has been allowed to leave by Norwich, where his contract had been to expire at the end of the season.

Canaries academy product Warner leaves Carrow Road having made four senior appearances for the Championship club.

He has featured only once this season, in a League Cup win over Stevenage back in August, though he has been an unused substitute in two league games.

Warner made 10 League Two appearances during a loan spell at Notts County in the second half of last season.

"There was a lot of interest, but as soon as I had the phone call from Newport County, it was a no-brainer for me," said Warner, who was linked with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian earlier this month.

"It was the right time for me and it's a good step in my career to go out and play."

Warner becomes Newport's fourth permanent January signing, following goalkeeper Lewis Webb, full-back Tom Davies – who has since been ruled out for the season through injury - and versatile forward Josh Martin. Exiles boss Nelson Jardim has also welcomed winger David Ajiboye on loan from Peterborough United.
