It's always been the albion way, not prepared to put up money and take a risk.

I am old enough to remember the seventies, what a team we had, challenging for two division one titles in three years, yes division one, days before the greed league. A squad of fifteen only one sub, we were the darlings of English football, playing with flair, attacking intent. If you scored three we would score four. If we had shown ambition we would have been, even now, one of the big clubs in English and European football. We bottled it and John Silk died in a plane crash, the team got broken up, in came players the manager thought better, they weren't. The rest is history.

Just back from Spain, finally read a great book, The three degrees, a superb book for any football fan but especially Albion fans, the story of how we changed British football, culture and helped to fight racism. Young baggies, recommend you read.
