Huddersfield V Birmingham- JJ's Definately Unofficial Official Match Thread - jjamez - 17-12-2014

It is the week before christmas and Huddersfield prepare to welcome Gary Rowett's Birmingham City to the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield will be hoping that they can emulate what the blues have done the last few weeks in terms of bouncing back from one defeat, with a big victory in their next game.

Obviously no one needs reminding of what happened to town down at Norwich, but for those of you out there that live in a cupboard, lets put it this way, it wasnt a pretty sight... However, if we can can copy what Milwall did, then I think we may be rather happy come saturday night, with Milwall losing 5-1 at home to M'boro a couple of week ago and bouncing back with a 1-0 over brighton.

As for the visitors, they have had a complete turn around since the appointment of their new manager. With the side recording good results since their 8-0 home thrashing at the hands of Bournemouth. Since then the side won four, drawn 2 and lost one. That defeat being 1-0 at the hands of Lee Clark's Blackpool. The blues showed their bouncebackability with a 6-1 hammering of Reading, ultimately costing the glorified physio his job.

Chris Powell said post saturday that there would have to be decisions made in regards to his next line up, and considering that Lynch is injured and Wallace now has xmas and new year off, there is going to be a decision made there.

As for other positions, well I think the midfield trio will be the same. in my view it will be at the top end of the pitch where changes are made.

My lineup would be

Smithies in goal

Smith at right back
Hudson and gerrard at centre back
Robinson at left back

Buttercup Coady and Hogg as the midfield three

with Scannell and Hammill flanking Holt as a forward three

Now looking at that the thing that comes to mind is that Smith isnt a real threat going forward and is still learning defensively, but i still prefer him of peltier. Hudson and gerrard are not the quickest of defenders, nor are they the greatest on the ball, so I would look to coady and hogg to collect the ball from them.

I Expect Coady to sit in front of the back line, with hogg running around like normal and buttercup playing a little bit further forward and looking to make moves in the forward spaces.

Hammill and scannel on the flanks offer pace, however, hammill has been a bit of a lost sheep recently, might be time to get him back in the herd. On the other side, scannell has been a new player really this season and has formed a decent partnership with smith, so again i dont think it is worth breaking that up.

Holt was pretty much ineffective at the weekend, but I dont see the point in nakhi playing up top alone or playing out on the flank as he becomes completely useless. I also dont see the point in risking vaughan just yet. We have holt we may as well get every last minute we can out of him.

In terms off the bench, well Lloyd will have to take a pew since murphy's law is injured, peltier will offer the versitlility, dixon will be on it, lolleypop, vaughan, nahki and for the seventh berth on the bench, we may as well give it to someone like trondstand or billings, purely for more experience.

As for our visitors, I can see them being unchanged, that will mean former town player Lee Novak will be on the bench, he seems to be finding his game time rather limited and undoubtably a move to the west coast to the tangerines will be in the offing. They also have former charlton defender Morrison as a member of their back line. He has just signed for them on a permenant deal, which to me is surprising as I thought he would be one of the players that Powell would like to be reunited with.

Their side hasnt really changed since Clark left, Zigic has returned and will be on the bench on saturday. But one thing that has happened is Gray has got his first senior hattrick and will be after much of the same. Has struck me as a quick and nippy player that can play up top or out wide, our slow back line will probably have their work cut out in trying to deal with him. However, with him being young, his inconsitancy will still be there. Maybe we will catch him on an off day?

Now then, with Santa readying his troops ahead of his big day..

Do you think Powell will be on the naughty or nice list?
Will he get what is on his wishlist?
Who would you like to see on that wishlist (realistic!)
Do you think Deano Claus will be able succeed in bringing in these gifts?

And most importantly, have you readers been good this year? What are you hoping to recieve from your better halves etc?

Merry Christmas terriers and supports from further afield! Smile

Hopefully he's on the nice list but will have to wait at least another week for his wish list.

Will he get what is on his wishlist?
He'll definately get some of them but a lot will depend on the dross we can ship out or pay off.

Who would you like to see on that wishlist (realistic!)
Very good question, the one I don't want to see is James Hanson. I just don't see how he will improve the team.

Do you think Deano Claus will be able succeed in bringing in these gifts?
Again it depends on what we can ship out, by the sounds of it if they are out of contract and haven't been offered a new one as yet then it's highly unlikely that they will. Ward,Gobern and Dixon are all definately on the not wanted list, by all accounts all these out of contract players(inc those not listed above) will free up somewhere between £2.5m to £2.8m on the wage bill.

And most importantly, have you readers been good this year? What are you hoping to recieve from your better halves etc?
I'm always good ? , what am I hoping to receive from Xmas...nothing apart from a fairly quiet day and some ? ?

Onto Saturday's game, while Clarke was in charge we always had a good chance of winning but as per usual a change of manager brings a change in fortune and hopefully that decent run they are on will end this weekend.
What team Powell play?
Who knows, definate starters will be
Smithies,Smith,Hudson,Robinson,Scannell and Holt...he'll probably start with Wells as well.
As for the rest.....no idea, I think we may even go 352

I think this will definitely be one of those turn arounds. We lose 0-5 and they win 6-1, in this league that means nowt. Our home form is good at the moment and although this will be much harder than it would've been if it were played a month ago, I fancy us to win.

If form meant anything in this league we'd all be bookies and drinking our favourite tipple by a swimming pool in a far warmer and nicer place than HMS Great Britannia. It would be a place that never has hurricanes, snow or tornado's and Town keep winning the League 3 times in a row. A bit like like Liverpool and Arsenal winning League titles at the moment, or Town playing in the Prem this season, that loverly kind of place that we and others dream of but doesn't really exist.

We got stuffed on Saturday by a team that was pretty much all ex Prem players (or should be current Prem players) that had been on a bad run and found the form eventually that got them up there in the first place. Glad they sold Pilks to Cardiff to be honest or it could have been really embarrassing in the second half.

On Saturday we are up against a team that has been mediocre and worse for ages but is on a current run of good form due to bringing in a former home town favourite as manager (for now) and a new signing or two that Wor Lee couldn't nail down. Owt could happen and probably will. Hopefully we'll burst the bubble that has formed around them since last weekend's win. And another thing, how the chuff have they got above us so quick after Wor Lee seemed to have them perfectly placed to go down? If they win a couple more I might have to move out of Middle England and head back north it is getting that bad. Wolves fans are looking nervously over their shoulders down here all of a sudden as well as us.

Want a win on Saturday as much as I need to hit the sack right now. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Lynch and Bunn both unavailable but should be back for the Christmas matches.

I'd start Vaughan and Hammill saturday. Both players chomping at the bit to get back involved and I think would give us real impetus going forward. People saying don't risk vaughan, but if he's fit he's fit, otherwise we won't 'risk' him the whole season. I'd also give smith a rest and put pelts in. A leader and we need some experience at the back after that whalloping last week. We haven't enough leaders still in this team, we are getting there though. Someone like COady with time could be a future town captain as could wallace. Powell obviously wants to strengthen in three key areas: central defence, central midfield and up top. Currently we are desperately short in all three areas and I don't think Powell has much faith in the bench to have an impact, especially if one of hogg, coady or butterfield get injured so it all depends on getting rid of the deadwood as to whether we can do a good bit of business. Holts been a good stopgap but he isn't the future, we need strikers like vaughan who won't get injured. Someone like kermorgant would have been fantastic but he'll probably be in the premier league with Bournemouth next year.

Gezza in. Peltier in. And Harry Bunn, who they said was definitely not playing, is in.
Wells on the bench.

One of the fans in front of me is giving Powell a right earbashing. Not justified imo.

They score from a free kick. Smithies found wanting.

At least we're not Blackpool. They're 6-1 down to Bournemouth at home.
