Absent Fans Even More Miserable Now - Devongone - 24-10-2020

I must say after Tuesday I'm dreading any further games. I think we may need complete lockdown NOW!

Interesting that Bob's Board was universally disparaging about the team AND no one commented that the difference between us and Wealdstone was not that they are part time and we are full, but that they recruited with an aim in mind - they knew that to compete they would have to be able to score goals and they are, because they signed players to do it.

The one positive is that three of our defeats came against the top three teams in the league. But maybe teams need to have played us to guarantee that extra win to put them top ......

Certainly poor old Pembo is attracting a hatred that I am sure is undeserved. His job was only really confirmed relatively recently. The club's future was only sort-of settled days earlier. There is very little available money, but then that is the case for many of our rivals too. We are also handicapped by two-year contracts having been given to players we would be better off without ...... Now I admit I'm unimpressed by our signing Kiwomya and Tyler Denton who have failed on several stages. They aren't devoid of ability. but Pembo will need to be a bit special to get it out of them won't he?

I'm tired of saying there are players who we could sign. Cameron Mason was in National North's team of the week again last week. Dylan Vassallo who was at Warrington has been picked up by Southport and got their goal last week ...... It goes on. We have to be in the market for free and very cheap talent only, we have to give young players their chance, we can't afford to fall out with players like Rowley and cast them into outer darkness, and the manager does have to be tactically flexible - if one formation continues not to work, try something new, you can't do worse than lose! It hasn't been Letheren's fault we are losing, but he was the wrong kind of signing, a slightly overweight thirty something who been around a few blocks, whether we stay up or plunge even deeper we are going to need to recruit a different kind of player at a different point in his career.
