New season starts Sep 12 - Lord Snooty - 24-07-2020

Well the retained list is out and it's no real shock, but nevertheless sad to say, Elias Kachunga and Collin Quaner are both leaving the club. Legends both, who played a huge part in our rise to the Premier League, but who have suffered since with injuries, loss of form and eventually ran out of contract time.

Also leaving are Joel Coleman, Rekeil Pyke and Jonny Stankovic.

Demeaco Duhaney and Ryan Schofield however, have been offered new contracts and so with the departure of the loan players and the return to the fold of out loaned out players, the squad for the new season now stands as...…

Harry Toffolo
Tommy Elphick
Jonathan Hogg
Juninho Bacuna
Adama Diakhaby
Richard Stearman
Herbert Bockhorn
Karlan Grant
Isaac Mbenza
Josh Koroma
Reece Brown
Alex Pritchard
Fraizer Campbell
Steve Mounié
Christopher Schindler
Jaden Brown
Ryan Schofield
Rarmani Edmonds-Green
Demeaco Duhaney
Lewis O'Brien
Matty Daly
Ben Hamer
Terence Kongolo
Florent Hadergjonaj
Ramadan Sobhi

The new season is due to start on the 12th of September and conclude on the weekend of 8 and 9 May. How many of these do you think will still be here? Will we get any money for any that we sell and will we manage to keep hold of Karlan Grant? If Grant does go, where are the goals coming from?

Who would you like to see out the door and which players would you be upset about losing?

And which areas do you think the new Head Coach will be looking to strengthen?

The first three weeks of the new season will be played behind closed doors, then spectators will be allowed in from the 1st of October onwards.

Given the new season is only 7 weeks away we will find out sooner rather than later about who will still be here next season.

As it stands we need to replace the following positions
Urgent attention required
Goalkeeper
Right Back
Right Wing

Attention required.
Center Back
central midfield.

In fact forget all that, we need to strengthen all over the park.

Karlan Grant tweeted after the Millwall game something about the "next challenge", so I think a new 20 goals a season striker needs to be top of the shopping list. If he does stay, bonus!

Personal view could have played League Cup 12/19/26 of September that way most people are not arsed about it playing behind closed doors. Possible restrictions when we eventually get back in on age and certain health conditions.
One thing for sure there are going to be some knackered players by the 8th May

You play the league Cup early and let it be used as a preseason sort of gig

RE: New season starts Sep 12 - Lord Snooty - 24-07-2020

Or just scrap the League Cup for a season. And the Checkatrade Trophy or whatever it is now.
Would anybody miss either of them?

The winners?

RE: New season starts Sep 12 - Lord Snooty - 25-07-2020

Not really. Who wins it these days? Boring competition.
And as for the other with the u23 teams in. Pah!

RE: New season starts Sep 12 - theo_luddite - 25-07-2020

The other thing is will the fans be let in? All of 'em, some of 'em or none of 'em? The lower leagues sure as hell won't kick off without some kind of revenue coming in, which is why they abandoned ship this season. How does the EFL expect them to trade next season without bums on seats?

Just because we can't get past our first game Snoots?

RE: New season starts Sep 12 - Lord Snooty - 25-07-2020

Could be theo. Our record in the League Cup is embarrassing.
