can anyone explain - Arcane Astral Aeons - 18-05-2020 if the championship is cancelled then this points per game will apparently be used anyone tell me what it actually is? RE: can anyone explain - drewks - 18-05-2020 I'm presuming they will look at the average points for every team on both home & away games so far, then apply them for the remaining fixtures. I may be miles out there though RE: can anyone explain - St Charles Owl - 18-05-2020 Here is how ESPN explain Weighted Points Per Game, which I believe is the most likely option if games cannot be played. What is this? Much like points per game, except this format takes into account each team's home and away form to provide an average for each, which is multiplied across a 38-game season. What would it mean? Compared to simple PPG, Tottenham would swap places with Arsenal for that possible place in Europa League qualifying. The only other change of note would come in relegation, which would see West Ham United drop two places from 16th to 18th and into the bottom three, with Bournemouth saved. That means bringing PPG vs. WPPG into a vote among Premier League clubs would essentially create an election between Bournemouth and West Ham to stay in the Premier League. How is it calculated? You divide points by the number of games played for home and away form separately. Multiply each number by 19 and add them together to create a total points tally. So Aston Villa's home form is 1.307×19=24.86. Their away form is 0.533×19=10.13. That gives them a WPPG tally for the season of 34.979. Not seen it yet calculated for the Championship anywhere. RE: can anyone explain - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 18-05-2020 That's pretty much it. No surprises how it works out for us. ![]() RE: can anyone explain - Baggievicar - 18-05-2020 Shame about the home form, eh? RE: can anyone explain - drewks - 19-05-2020 Is it just me? I couldn't give a shot about the greedy, grasping Premier League restarting - I just want them to totally surprise me and produce a MASSIVE donation to League 1, 2 and National League clubs to stop many of them going out of business. OH look - there's another one of those flying pigs RE: can anyone explain - talkSAFT - 19-05-2020 You're not alone, Drewks. But hardly surprising that the Tory philosophy runs our National Sport(s). RE: can anyone explain - silverbaggie - 19-05-2020 (19-05-2020, 11:42)drewks Wrote: Is it just me? Couldn't agree more Drewks. As you may all know in recent years I have been watching my now local Club i.e. Cheltenham Town. I really don't know how they are going to survive this pandemic. The Whaddon Road ground has a maximum capacity of just over 7,000 with a 'home gate' usually around 3,500 even though the Club have had (or did have) a much better season with an outside chance of promotion. The Club usually rely on trying to attract more season ticket holders and encourage an 'early bird' system for ticket purchase which should have started this month. Hence, giving them some capital to see them through to next season's start. How are they going to pay the squad members during the close season? They are already running on one of the smallest squads in the Division and can't really afford to release players assuming their contracts are about to expire. Have they got any players that they can sell at a good price. e.g. Couple of seasons ago :-Mo Eisa to Bristol City for £1M No I don't think so. A million or two would make all the difference to Clubs like the Robins and there must be many who are in a similar situation. There are probably Premiership players, never mind their Clubs, who wouldn't miss that amount of money but, are likely to have pockets so deep that even the Tax man can't get at them. Just hope that in the next few weeks I don't read about Liverpool, Man City et.al. spending £70M on one player when that amount could probably save a dozen lower league Clubs from going under. Watch this space BUT DON'T hold your breath. ![]() RE: can anyone explain - Blue Baggie - 20-05-2020 When Sky, BT and BBC reduce fees in general, all clubs are going to be in for a financial shock. I can't see any PL club voting to distribute an ever reducing pot of money. |
