WBA vs Luton - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 30-01-2020

At this point, it feels like there's something to be said for telling the team - and perhaps the manager too - that every match between now and May is a cup tie. It's not far off being the truth. For six weeks and counting, the only time we've been able to muster assured performances and deliver wins to go with them is in the FA Cup, and in the meantime, our promotion cushion has gone up in smoke. Tuesday night's defeat at Cardiff was as bad a showing and as self-inflicted a defeat as anything we saw when Big Dave's train left the rails last year. As a more experienced manager, I hope that Slaven Bilic will be able to turn it round. I know that the problem lies partly in our injuries and suspensions, as well as the obvious on-field weaknesses that are hopefully being addressed by our recruitment in the last days of the transfer window. But just as Roberto Di Matteo found a way to "cowboy up" this time ten years ago, when our promotion was looking threatened during a very bad patch, and grind out the necessary wins to keep momentum going - even without the strongest of teams - so Bilic needs to find that Stetson and six-shooter and lay down the law while there's still time.

Saturday offers him the chance against bottom-of-the-table Luton; not as friendly a prospect as we might like, as we've been woeful against relegation battlers at times this season, and the Hatters beat ten-man Derby on Tuesday night to break a string of five straight defeats. There's no better time for them to visit the Hawthorns and get a result, and if they do so, we could find ourselves dropping out of the top two for the first time in months. With a stroke of deja vu, it would be Nottingham Forest replacing us there. There's no greater sign that it's time for the spirit of 2010 to make a comeback.

Excellent to see Mr Jones play it out from the back expertise is paying dividends for Luton.
Time to get back to winning ways, but Bilic must shuffle the pack.

Theres more than a twist of fate about this and I am without doubt a glass half empty but needs filling asap kinda guy.
So with that in mind heres whats haunting me about this fixture 1 Luton were the only team with a worse record than us as mentioned
on the stoke thread 2 with their last outing they became equal to us in points over the last 6 or 7 matches =4 piss poor points each
3 Ex WBA man Jones back in town 4 were home where our record is poorest 5 Luton just won their last match while we lost ours so may
just be feeling a touch of momentum has come their way. 6 Luton are bottom, a part of the league where we are beginning to consistently ship points.
This is most definitely a glass half empty fixture for me so I'm going to predict a Luton win 1-0 and hope that this provides a glimmer of hope in my
luckless mist tinted spectacles. If I could I would go down the studio and come up for air at 5pm my go to hoodoo place that has often seen a victory
but sadly I have to be in work which is equally dark and below ground but not as fortunate a destination. Lady luck we need you now. big time!

We'll win this one, blip over?

RE: WBA vs Luton - Match Thread - drewks - 31-01-2020

If we don't win this one, AND regain a bit of our swagger, we don't deserve to be in the top 2.

Simples.

RE: WBA vs Luton - Match Thread - wba13 - 31-01-2020

If we don’t win this one and regain some of our swagger we probably won’t be in top two.

My trust in Bilic is slipping, without addressing our weakness in midfield and defence while having a chance is beyond belief.
Who is going to be our leader? and get players focussed and don't "LET" Luton score in the first 10 minutes.
If we win today it should be a stepping stone to us getting back on track.
I really hope Bilic drops Johnstone, Sawyers, HRK, Zohore, Bartley & Edwards - he has to change how we line up.
Picking the same players who are all struggling will see the fans directly looking at his ability as a manager.

Bond
Furlong - O'Shea - Hegazi - Townsend
Livermore - Barry
Phillips - Filip - Grosiki
Austin

Johnstone - Brunt - Robinson - Peltier - Tulloch - Bartley - Harper
