What Should be done - Northwalesbaggie - 23-12-2019

I don't post very often but felt that i had to on the issue of Racism at Football matches. I've been supporting the Baggies for nearly 50 odd years. I'm Asian brought up in Handsworth. Not once did i encounter racisim at the Shrine. Long may that Continue but what do my fellow baggies think should be done especially after yesterday at Tottenham & the pathetic attempt by the Italian Authorities? Merry Christmas a Prosperous new year to one & all. Looking forward to seeing the team on the 29th Dec & 1st Jan.

The FA or whoever should put the onus on clubs to root it out. With camera`s recording every match nowadays, clubs should be docked 4 points for every proven incident. DD Angry Angry

They're wankers who are just following a new pathetic trend. The media - if they really care (instead of pretending to) - should just ignore it, and it will go away. After all, terrace racism disappeared years and years ago. But, you can bet, wankers at all grounds will now follow the trend.

If The League started to go over the top, and deduct points etc, you can just picture Leeds fans (for a good example) pretending to be Albion fans and abusing their own black players, so we get points deductions!

And what happens when fans call Cardiff players "Taffy B*stards"?

Understand Talksaft’s point but as long as it can be proven who’s responsible I am all for docking points, only way to stop it for good. It shouldn’t be up to the players to come off the pitch.

I am not at all convinced you can dock the club points for the actions of a very small minority of fans. The onus is on the authorities to prosecute the individuals who do this, the clubs role is to help with identification and then ban them for life. The clubs only have so much control over who buys tickets and who attends games, they should be measured by their actions when these events occur.

While I accept that it's a trend, I'm not convinced that the media ignoring it will make it go away. How many years now has it been since they decided to stop showing streakers and pitch invaders on camera? Yet there are still streakers and pitch invaders at some sporting events, because it turns out that attention-seekers don't need a TV audience to get a buzz when they've got a live one all around them. Besides which, the advent of social media and smartphones means that these particular pillocks don't even need Sky Sports to make them famous; on Facebook and Twitter they're perfectly capable of broadcasting their own knobheadery to the captive audience of like-minded inbreds that they call friends.

I do agree about the pitfalls of points deductions, though. Even though it wasn't a racist incident, you only have to think back those numpties - supposedly Albion fans -who pelted a coin at Brunty's face in an away game a few years back to see how insane it would be to summarily punish the entire club for the actions of individual idiots. If it happens repeatedly then there's a case to be made, but if it's a random one-off, how are you supposed to prevent it?

Ban offenders form the ground for 5 years with a large fine - it's fine with me.
