TRANSFER

The Yorkshire side have basically started to rebuild having sold Pinnock Moore and Lindsay for large fees have enabled them to invest Thomas, Schmidt and Wilks all having arrived for fess round about the million mark. Wilks is decent having played against for Doncaster in the cup earlier this year. Woodrow main goal threat..
Barnsley have taken time to acclimatise to the Championship after promotion from league 1 last season, a very young team average age wise managed to secure a point with a late goal against a Derby side who were probably still alcohoically challenged from last week.
Although not pulling up trees at the moment under German manager Stendel they will play for the entire 90 minutes could be a few goals in this one.
No Fisher for us Darnell gets his International break one game early with his 5th booking, so if Hughes not fit Browne at right back, may be a bit of squad rotation in this one just to freshen the side up.

Match Officials: Barnsley Home

The match official for Saturday’s clash with Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley at Deepdale is experienced referee Gavin Ward.

Gavin, from Surrey, is in his 13th season on the EFL lists, and although he has officiated the Lilywhites on eight previous occasions, although this is only his second at Deepdale.

As mentioned, in those 12 seasons he has also taken charge of North End on eight previous occasions, including our late draw at Hull City in October 2018, our early season trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City and our home clash with Sheffield United in April.
Prior to our trip to Norfolk early last season, the last game he officiated was at Elland Road against Leeds United in December 2015, when Jordan Pickford was sent off, only to have the card rescinded on appeal – Mathew Hudson that day making his debut for the Lilywhites.

His other games in charge of PNE were at Brentford and in 2010 at Leicester City, and his first two in the space of a few months back in early 2010, at Bristol City and a 1-1 draw with Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena.

This will be his eighth game of the season, having so far issued 24 yellow cards and three red cards in his seven previous games, the last of which being Luton Town’s 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers last weekend.

On Saturday afternoon Richard Wild and Nik Barnard will be the match official’s assistants, whilst the fourth official will be Benjamin Speedie.

Preston North End 5 Johnson 2 Barkhuizen, Pearson, Harrop Barnsley 1 McGeehan
PNE line-up: Rudd, Browne, Rafferty, Pearson, Bauer, Davies, Barkhuizen (Potts, 82), Gallagher ©, Nugent (Harrop, 73), Johnson, Maguire (Stockley, 74). Subs not used: Hudson, Storey, Ginnelly, Ledson.

Barnsley line-up: Collins, J Williams (Green, 81), B Williams, Brown (Wilks 55), McGeehan, Woodrow, Bӓhre (Styles, 68), Chaplin, Sibbick, Halme, Mowatt. Subs not used: Walton, Andersen, Thomas, Pinillos.

Attendance: 12,431 (1,339 Barnsley fans)

Referee: Mr G Ward

Only disappointment we did not score more, Maguire twice in the first half fired straight at Collins when he should have scored and Nugent missed the target from eight yards, apart from that mostly everything that went towards goal went in.
The visitors played some nice passing stuff but lack experience at this level and may find it a struggle to stay up as they are not the soundest in defence. Should have been ahead before we took the lead when we did though it was Johnson with his head after Barkhuizen's shoot had gone upwards following the save by Collins
[Image: download-10.jpg]
Fully deserved the leadand should have doubled it when Maguire missed on the stroke of half time Tykes level, soft goal by our standards but suspect the move came from the Barnsley training ground, corner to past the back post player coming in passes ball inside to McGeehan who squeezed the ball home.
Within four minutes of the restart lead regained Johnson latched onto a ball over the top advanced on goal slotted past keeper who was convinced he was off side.
Bahre had a chance to level from the second phase play at a corner sent the ball wide of the far post and with it went the Tykes chance of getting somethng from the game.
Soon 3-1 Johnson giving a Messi type of performance down the left squared the ball to the unmarked Barkuizen in it went, within a minute Barkhuizen flew down the left leaving a trail of bodies in his wake, ball across the box to the back post and the rarest of things a Ben Pearson finish from close range, his last goal being three years ago against Villa.

Barnsley fans departed en masse and by the time most of them had reached the M6 it was five, Harrop chasing down a pass and chipping the ball over Collins into the net, keeper thought he was fouled Mr Ward didn't. Still had time for Potts to almost flick in a first timer from a pass by Johnson and Stockley powered a header straight at the keeper.
Third in the league as we go into the International break, maybe now the good denizens of Preston will ditch their fake suuport of Premier League clubs and get behind their home town who may be there next season
Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel:

"We played like a youth team in a lot of situations.

"At half-time I thought ok it was not our best half but at 1-1 with one chance is good but the second-half was the worst that I can remember at Barnsley.

"Preston played good you can see the table but we played like a team that is not good enough to play in the Championship.

Got the second and third wrong way wrong put it down to age

Sam Hutchinson was on our commentary team today as he was suspended, he was asked what our most difficult game was so far this season and he said away at Preston. Said it was a ground that no team looked forward to going to!! Of course he added we do always seem to beat you at our place though!!
