Another draw - Dancingwilldoit - 31-08-2019

Team selection was mind boggling - again. The only good thing was Coddington in goal. Weir and Gerrard again Angry At least we had Boden up front and not on the wing.

First half we did nothing, looked better than last Saturday but that didnt take much. Somebody went strolling through our defence and scored 0-1. Crowd were getting pretty vocal. Somebody in the D&R management must have stood on the pitch, licked a finger and stuck it in the air and discovered it was very windy and if they kept the ball on the ground it would be more successful than long balls for the wind to get hold of and go anywhere. We obviously didnt have anybody on our management that had fingers. Long ball after long ball going nowhere.
Second half we had no subs appear which was mind boggling but within 15 mins we had Weir and Yarney off for Mandeville and McGlashan. We upped the tempo and Fondop scored with a good header. We could have gone on to win it but to be honest we didnt deserve it.
Once again inept team selection and tactics cost us before we even kicked off.

If I were a betting man I would put my savings on JBW to score against us Tuesday.

In the 8 games we've played. We've took the lead twice in 2 games, Dover at home and Barnet away. The other games we have always gone behind and managed to come back to gain a draw or lost. The long ball football doesn't work in this league anymore, things have moved on and a lot of teams and players in this division are very skillful and not much separates this division from some teams in L2. We need to move forward when we have the ball and also take shots at goal from outside the area instead of passing it side to side and then eventually losing possession. When the opposition have the ball we need to close them down quickly and force them into making mistakes while on the ball instead of letting them run at our defence and getting to the edge of the box.

Thanks for posting the report, Dancing. I couldn`t get up myself yesterday so it`s good to get a run-down on what happened.

What is with us and these bloody draws? It`s getting to be just like last season. I suppose one consolation is that we seem to be able to claw our way back into games fairly regularly, which suggests that the spirit within the team is still pretty good even though nothing much else seems to be. I`m beginning to think that JS has backed himself into a very tight corner with Gerrard and he`ll keep on playing him out of sheer stubbornness. Certainly, nobody else seems to rate him either and from what I saw at Stockport his lack of pace is going to get exposed fairly regularly at this level.

I can see this season developing on the same lines as last; namely, that the players get so much flak from the home ‘support’ that they`re more comfortable and therefore play better away from home. I normally sit at the back of the East Stand when I come up, but I`m getting so fed up with a couple old gits (yes, I know; that`s a bit rich coming from me) behind me moaning their bleedin` guts up from the moment the first ball is kicked that I`m going to start sitting somewhere else. I know we`re all thoroughly pissed off with how things are at present, but can these people genuinely not realise that getting on the players` backs throughout the game is counter-productive? They may not be Messis and Neymars admittedly, but they sure as hell wouldn`t be playing for us if they were. If all they want to do is moan, they`d serve the team better by staying away and going up the pub for the afternoon.

I`m afraid, Mr Allen, you`ve got nowhere to hide now. Having blamed anybody and everybody else for our decline and fall over the past few years and told us that our 2 days out at Wembley a few years ago outweighs our descent to the bottom of the National League, there are no excuses now. Bringing back JS was entirely your idea – as, presumably, was the accompanying fanfare that made his appointment look like something equivalent to the second coming of the Messiah – and if he falls flat on his face (or some other part of his anatomy) as he is undoubtedly doing at the moment, then the buck most definitely stops with you. Please don`t still be telling us that ”we`ve never had it so good” if, as Matt suggests, we`re playing Matlock Town in the Northern Premier League in a few years` time. A bit of humility might go down well with the support now – but I suspect that humble pie never has been and never will be on your menu.

For what it`s worth, Dancing, I`m inclined to agree with you about JBW. I reckon as well that he`ll prove a point to us as before the season`s out; and good luck to him if he does.

Dave Allen and John Sheridan are out of the same mould SGB. Stubborn, arrogant and cant possibly ever be in the wrong.
There was a move yesterday when a Dagenham midfielder just ghosted past Gerrard and left him for dead. He tried to go after him but could get nowhere near. Problem is it wasnt isolated and seems to happen on a regular basis. Their goal came from a run where Gerrard should have been but wasnt. The consensus of opinion seems to that Gerrard is a waste of a shirt but he's JS's mate so the team will be changed to accomodate him. As a result we had 5 centre backs playing yesterday, its just crazy.

Just 2 other points posted elsewhere. Snodin said that Coddington didnt know until he arrived for the warm up that he was playing yesterday ??? Why the hell not? Talk about throwing him it at the deep end. Did we not practice when the keeper has the ball where is he going to kick it? Obviously not.
The other one was that it seems Buchanan posted on social media that he went to Northamptons match yesterday. Sheridan has obviously done a lot of work on some team spirit .

We have to win sooner or later, can't go the whole season without a win.

RE: Another draw - SaltergateBorn - 03-09-2019

Do we have your word on that, Matt? You`ve not been over-doing the optimism pills again, have you?
