A Bamber Bridge club played in the late 19th century, but the modern club was established in 1952.[2] The new club joined the Preston & District League, progressing to the Senior Division.[2] In 1974 they merged with Walton-le-Dale, continuing in the Preston & District League. They went on to win the league's Guildhall Cup in 1978–79, before completing a Premier Division and cup double in 1980–81. After winning the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield in 1981–82 and another Guildhall Cup win in 1984–85, they won back-to-back Premier Division titles in the next two seasons, before winning a league and cup double in 1989–90.[4]
In 1990 Bamber Bridge moved up to Division Two of the North West Counties League.[5] Their second season in the league saw them win the division, resulting in promotion to Division One; they also reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase, where they lost 2–0 to Wimborne Town.[5] After finishing as runners-up in Division One in the following season (1992–93), a second successive promotion was achieved when the club moved up to Division One of the Northern Premier League.[5]
In 1994–95, a second-place finish saw Bamber Bridge promoted to the Premier Division, with the club also winning the league's Challenge Cup in their first season in the league and victory in the final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy. The following season they won the Premier Division, which would have usually resulted in promotion to the Football Conference. However, Irongate was not deemed up to standard for the fifth tier, and the club remained in the Northern Premier League,[6]
In 1999–2000 Bamber Bridge reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time. After beating St Albans City 2–0, they lost 1–0 at Cambridge United in the second round.[5] The club remained in the Premier Division until the end of the 2001–02 season, in which they finished bottom; although they beat Radcliffe Borough 3–2 in the promotion/relegation play-off semi-final, they were beaten 2–1 by Ashton United in the final.[5]
Although Bamber Bridge returned to the Premier Division as a result of league restructuring following the creation of the Conference North and South, their stay was short-lived as they were relegated to Division One at the end of the 2004–05 season.[5] However, the season did see them win the President's Cup. When the league added a third division in 2007, the club were placed in Division One North.[5]
A fourth-place finish in 2013–14 saw Bamber Bridge qualify for the promotion play-offs. After beating Warrington Town 1–0 in the semi-finals, they lost 3–2 to Ramsbottom United in the final.[5] In the following season they finished third, again qualifying for the play-offs, this time losing 2–0 to Darlington 1883 in the final after beating Northwich Victoria 2–1 in the semi-final.[5] A fourth-place finish in 2017–18 saw the club reach the play-offs, in which they defeated Tadcaster Albion 2–1 in the semi-finals and Prescot Cables 1–0 in the final to earn promotion to the Premier Division.

Bamber Bridge vs Preston North End Preview
Preston North End get their pre-season campaign underway with the annual trip to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium, to face Bamber Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
For North End fans, it will be the first chance to see summer signing Patrick Bauer in action, following the completion of his move from Charlton Athletic.
Others that could feature include Billy Bodin – who has not pulled on a Lilywhites shirt since last pre-season – and Josh Harrop, who has been out since October 2018, both with cruciate knee injuries.
The likes of Andrew Hughes, Tom Barkhuizen and Brad Potts, who all missed the last couple of months of last season after undergoing different operations, have all been back in full training since the start of pre-season and are also set for a run out.
Alex Neil’s side will wear their new home kit for the first time at the ground, formerly Irongate, and those who can’t make it to the game will be able to watch the game on iFollow PNE.
We will be streaming the game live for subscribers, with Jonathan Breeze joining former North End captain Paul McKenna to bring you all the action from the clash with Joey Collins’ side.
The coverage will begin from 2.55pm, with the full game also being added to the service the following day, so if you can’t get to the ground or tune in, you can still catch up with the first run out of the 2019/20 preparations.

First half goals from skipper Tom Clarke and Louis Moult got North End’s pre-season campaign off to a winning start against Bamber Bridge at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.
As with previous seasons, manager Alex Neil chose to put out two different XIs in each half, with the likes of Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop getting their first 45 minutes after injury and Patrick Bauer also made his debut in a lilywhite shirt.
It was a glorious afternoon at Irongate, with an excellent crowd in attendance and they witnessed the home side have the first real attempt on goal, Ryan White shooting wide of the left-hand post from the edge of the penalty area.
But within two minutes of that chance, PNE – wearing their new home kit – were in front. It came from a Josh Harrop corner from the left, flicked on by Moult and Clarke rushed in at the back post to poke home from close range.
Harrop looked sharp on his return and he put a header from Tom Barkhuizen’s cross just wide of Danny Roccia’s right-hand upright within seconds of the tenth minute opener.

Just after the quarter of hour mark, Graham Burke, back from his loan at Gillingham, twice went close to a second. Firstly, from another Barkhuizen pull back, he hit the base of the left-hand post and as it came back to him the Irishman back-heeled goalwards, only to run agonisingly on the line before being cleared.
On the half hour mark Burke was again denied a goal on his return, this time his shot – that ended up in the back of the net – deflecting off the arm of Jordan Storey and a free kick being awarded for handball.
But on 34 minutes it was two. Great work again by Burke, saw the No.19 run from deep right up to the edge of the penalty area before a back heel freed Moult, who slammed the ball into the bottom left hand corner from 15 yards out.
After the break, home keeper Roccia proved the difference between the scoreline getting larger, making a number of excellent saves.
Firstly, he denied Jayden Stockley at close range, before former North End youth team product Matt Dudley did a great job in the wall to block a goalbound free kick from Bodin.
Roccia then made another fine stop to deny Alan Browne, with Bodin inches away with a follow up shot with his left foot, curling an effort from the edge of the box just wide of the left hand post.
Brig skipper Matt Lawlor made a superb block with 11 minutes to go to deny Browne after Gallagher’s cross-field ball to Bodin had then been turned inside for the overlapping Rafferty to pull the ball back for last season’s second top scorer.
The Bamber Bridge No.1 made two more excellent stops in the closing stages, firstly at the feet of Ginnelly and then in the final minute a Bodin cross from the right was again met by Stockley, the ball coming back off the foot of the left-hand post to make the game remain

Cork City Football Club (Irish: Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaí) is an Irish association football club based in Cork. The club currently plays in the League of Ireland Premier Division. The club was founded and elected to the League of Ireland in 1984. It was one of the first clubs in Ireland (and the first in Cork) to field a team of professional footballers. With the progression of professionalism at the club, continued development of the Turners Cross stadium and the transition to summer football, the club became one of the biggest and best supported clubs in the country.[3] In 2008, financial issues resulted in a period of examinership, and the club's then holding company was wound-up in 2010.[4] A team was entered into the 2010 League of Ireland First Division,[5] before the club re-acquired rights to the name "Cork City Football Club",[6] and was promoted back to the premier division for the 2012 season.[7] Cork City FC won its third premier division title, and first FAI Cup double, during the 2017 season.
City's traditional colours are green and white with red trim, and the crest is a variant of the Cork coat of arms. The club play home games at Turners Cross.
Off to the Republic to play Cork who after 24 games have 26 points and are lying three from the bottom this season. as we are in Ireland it is training camp time and hopefully unlike previous years we will not come back signing some less than average Irishg players.
As with Saturday probably play a different team each half maybe game time for Potts, Maguire and Robinson.

Alex Neil’s Preston North End made it two wins from two in pre-season as goals from Jayden Stockley and Josh Ginnelly defeated Cork City 2-0 at Turner’s Cross.
The opener came on 39 minutes as Daniel Johnson tried to feed Tom Barkhuizen in a left channel, only for Enda O’Neill to slide in and divert the ball into the path of Stockley, who drove a left foot shot into the bottom corner.
The visitors were made to wait until five minutes from time to double their advantage; City keeper Tadgh Ryan making a number of world class saves and the woodwork getting in the way three times, before Ginnelly collected Cork-born Alan Browne’s cross from the right, checking inside from the left corner of the penalty area and curing a low shot into the bottom right hand corner from 15 yards out.
The goal was no more than the performance deserved, with PNE dominant in the second period – the scoreline ending much larger had it not been for the brilliance of the young Cork stopper.
Like the opening pre-season game three days earlier at Bamber Bridge, the manager went with two different XIs in each half, with Billy Bodin again looking sharp on his return from a year out and Louis Moult also impressing; leading the line in the second half.
The home side, three days before their Europa League qualifier first leg at home to Progres, started brightly and Darragh Rainsford got on the end of an outswinging right-hand corner, but was unable to trouble Declan Rudd.
Irishman Graham Burke was the first to actually get a shot on goal and he came close twice in the space of five minutes before the quarter hour mark; firstly forcing O’Neill into a block and then seeing Kavanagh do the same after a Jayden Stockley effort was scrambled away inside the six-yard box.
Mid-way through the first period and Daniel Johnson saw a shot blocked by Josh Honohan and then some good overlapping from Josh Earl down the left drove to the byline and drilled the ball into the six-yard box only for Gary Boylan to clear at the feet of Burke.
Before the half hour mark Josh Harrop was replaced by local boy Adam O’Reilly, the manager revealing afterwards that the No.10 had had a kick on the calf, but should only miss a few days’ worth of training.
Tom Barkhuizen switched over to the left after the substitution and drilled a shot from the left corner of the penalty area that Stockley almost gets a toe to, but the ball went inches wide of the right-hand post.
The pressure continued with some great play by Ben Pearson sending Stockley clear through the middle. He was upended 20 yards out. Burke getting the free kick through the wall, but it was cleared to the left where a cross came back in, only for keeper Ryan to save well from a header by skipper Tom Clarke.
O’Reilly showed some tenacious play in midfield, winning the ball 30 yards out in a central position, stepping forward and driving a shot narrowly wide of the right-hand post.
The opener finally came with six minutes to go until the interval. Johnson picked up the ball on the left and looked to thread the ball into Barkhuizen in the box, only for the defender to slide in force the ball into the feet of Stockley, who – with his weaker foot – stroked the ball into the bottom corner.
If the Lilywhites had done well in the first half, they were dominant in the second and could have scored a bagful of goals had the home goalkeeper not been inspired.
Louis Moult runs through from a lofted ball over the top; he takes his time, but is unable to keep his shot down and test Ryan.
His performance began two minutes into the half as he denied Louis Moult on the half-volley from the right corner of the area after a lovely through ball from second half captain Paul Gallagher; Josh Ginnelly also prevented from scoring on the follow up by Honohan.
On 50 minutes the side-netting was bulging after a volley from Moult after Andrew Hughes’ header from Billy Bodin’s cross was blocked.
And a minute later they went even closer, with Ginnelly showing quick dancing feet seeing him past four defenders to the edge of the six-yard box, only for a last-ditch block. The ball was kept alive and the the winger dragged a shot just wide from Moult’s knock down.
Just before the hour mark the woodwork was left shaking. A Ginnelly header was saved by Ryan and Bodin on the follow up rattled the post and then Moult was denied by the keeper again!
And again, the goal frame was hit as superb work from Alan Browne on the left, as he spun and played the ball into Moult 25 yards out and he arrowed a shot that seemed to be heading for the top right corner until a last split second deviation onto the corner of post and bar.
Another tremendous move and brilliant save from Ryan followed, this time Joe Rafferty found Moult who superbly reversed the ball inside for Bodin who fired from 18 yards, the stopper diving at full-stretch to his right to push the ball away.
With less than 15 minutes to go Browne was denied by Ryan, this time with a thumping effort from 25 yards. Cries of ‘sign him up’ from the PNE faithful behind the goal where the custodian was having a stormer being sung.
But, finally, the second goal came. Browne was freed by Bodin down the right-hand side of the penalty area; the Irishman clipped the ball into the left corner of the box where 'Gino' collected and stepped inside before curling into the bottom right hand corner of Ryan's goal to wrap up a thoroughly good performance and win.
