Liverpool - WBA-Josh - 07-05-2019 Wow that was an unbelievable performance from the scousers. If all goes as I hope tomorrow will and Ajax win, the final is going to be Jürgen Klopp’s heavy metal versus Erik ten Hag’s psytrance, Slayer versus Vini Vici. It would be a fascinating tactical battle. RE: Liverpool - 4evaabaggie - 08-05-2019 What is all the fuss about? I hate the greed league, I hate the also ran league ......... Liverpool are not champions of England, spurs are not champions of England, Liverpool won't be champions of England this year either yet their gonna be the best team in europe, European champions .... how can that be. I have never watched a chumpions league match, seen snippets whilst at work, not thorough choice. I do not watch greed league games, when we were there I recorded match of the day and only watched our highlights, short as they often were, media, FA and sky sports bias really grips my s@@t. Whow. 4eva, I share your dislike of a lot of top level club football - the hype, the egos, the obscene money. BUT you're wrong about last night! It really was a truly fantastic sporting occasion - I'd class it up there with us winning back the Ashes (2005?) that fantastic original Super Saturday when GB won those 4 Olympic golds one after the other. Better than the MU v BM final (1999?) by a mile. The atmosphere created was really something special, and the players responded brilliantly. Unforgettable. RE: Liverpool - talkSAFT - 08-05-2019 I bet that slimeball Ronaldo was having a loud snigger. (Bit like Sheldon out of Big Bang). I've only seen the 7 mins highlights this morning, but however you look at it, that was the best ever (even > Gerrard's Final 2005) RE: Liverpool - 4evaabaggie - 08-05-2019 Sorry I still don't see what the fuss is all about .... if it was the European cup, champions of England versus the champions of Spain when the league's were level playing fields and each and every team had the chance to compete and be competitive then, yes I would agree. It is just two teams in a competition set up by football's governing bodies to make a few rich clubs even richer and stop the majority of teams having a look in. Yes the atmosphere was probably great and almost certainly tense but I reiterate ...... Liverpool are not champions and it doesn't appear that their going to be English champions this season either so how can they be crowned champions of europe, the best team on the continent? I do not and will not watch it until it does what it says on the tin, champions playing champions, who have played in and won, balanced unbiased leagues where governing bodies favourite teams don't get a helping hand. You can try but you won't change my opinion ..... I remember the 70's, yes Liverpool dominated but it wasn't thorough buying every half decent player, it wasn't based on money but good management of club and team, good scouting, good honest footballing principles ...... not this modern obscene money orientated bias garbage. Where is fair play? RE: Liverpool - talkSAFT - 08-05-2019 I thoroughly agree with you about £££ BUYING SUCCESS, Eva, and I hope the bonus-earning Governors of UEFA and the Prem get mugged on the way to their Bank. They must know that proper fans will turn their backs on the game, then dump their Sky aerials onto the skip before long, but They will be swanning it by their poolsides with Ronaldo and co by then. Whatever way you look at it, though, the mini-League Euro Championship is (hopefully) a halfway house for our Big 6 to f**k off to, one day (hopefully) soon, and leave a more interesting English League for the rest of us to enjoy. (Last weekend I watched League 1 and 2 on Saturday night, because I actually prefer it to the much better Premier!) Having said all that, the Liverpool/Barca tie must rank as the all-time greatest! RE: Liverpool - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 08-05-2019 I agree with your general perspective, and I never watch Champions League matches for precisely that reason. But I sat down and watched the highlights of this one when I realised what Liverpool had done, because it was quite obviously a once-in-a-generation kind of comeback against the odds. That Trent Alexander-Arnold corner in particular is going to get replayed for years to come, like the Hunt/Carr donkey-kick, as a shining example of a quick-thinking player outwitting the opposition. And as much as I dislike Klopp for the disrespect he showed us in the past, there's no denying that this win was based on good management of club and team and good honest footballing principles, unless you'd contend that the Liverpool side is somehow more expensive than Barcelona's. To deny the significance of this would be like denying that the conclusion to the 2012 title-race ("AGUEROOOO!") was a moment of drama right up there with Arsenal in '89, just because Man City had spent money Arsenal never had. It's entirely possible to despise and oppose the direction in which football has gone, while also acknowledging when it throws up moments of utter, unforgettable brilliance. RE: Liverpool - Slick_Footwork - 08-05-2019 I have to say the game plan from Valverde was quite Jimmy Shan esque away from home. Sit everyone so deep that there's no forward options and no way to get out. From the start, it felt like a Liverpool win was inevitable. It was one way traffic with Liverpool attacking and Barcelona setup simply to hold out. Like us at Championship Level, Barcelona are too good to be just 'holding out' and moreover, they don't have the players who are capable of doing it. Had Valverde started with the vibrant attack minded Artur, who always looks for a penetrative forward pass, rather than the negative and past his best Arturo Vidal, I have no doubt that Barcelona would've scored the away goal they needed to progress. Unfortunately modern day managers lose sight about what this game is all about. The vast majority of them manage with fear. Despite the tactics, Messi still managed to lay on 3 superb chances with picture perfect through balls, unfortunately Coutinho, Suarez and Alba couldn't finish their dinner. While Messi is still at the top of his game, some of his aging colleagues - Rakitic, Pique, Busquets and especially Suarez - are far from what they once were. That said, fair play to Liverpool. It was a vibrant old school performance jam packed with energy, intensity and hunger. It' rare to see this type of intensity from modern day players who often resemble robots. Klopp has to be commended for managing to get this type of reaction from his players. It was also fantastic to actually see a young English player showing brilliant speed of thought for the 4th goal. I can genuinely see Alexander Arnold becoming a central midfielder, because there's no way a player who has his technical ability and vision should be playing at right back. If I was Messi, i would honestly consider moving to City for the last couple of years of his career. This Barcelona side haven't shopped in the upper echelon of the market in the last few years. I can't help thinking linking up with Guardiola again would give Messi a final champions League victory that he deserves. He would also be the final piece of the jigsaw for City. I do fear this kind of result for us at Villa. With us setting up a similar setup to Barcelona enabling them to run riot. RE: Liverpool - WBA-Josh - 08-05-2019 Another night of Champions League craziness. Now Spurs come from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 and go through on away goals. All English final now. Bloody hell Ajax. Why couldn’t you hold on? ![]() RE: Liverpool - 4evaabaggie - 09-05-2019 Could also be an all English final in the Europa league as well ........ I prefer that ....... that is more for normal clubs not the mega rich favoured clubs. Hardly any media coverage .... I hate the media and all these bias's that exist in world football. |
