Our Home Form - pieandabovril - 12-11-2014 The atmosphere from the home support on Sunday was really poor. However,I am no statistician, but have we ever had such a prolonged period of time when our home wins have been so spasmodic? Going back to the heady days of the early Steve Clarke reign when our home performances were exciting to say the least,we seem to have been in a downward spiral that would test the patience of any diehard Supporter,so its no wonder that we are struggling to create a genuine atmosphere inspired by performances on the pitch! The Liquidator will always help pre-match of course, but even that seems to have disappeared into the ether! So.can anyone compare our home win ratio for the last couple of Seasons, against some of the dire WBA Teams in the past? Bobby Gould,Brian Little,Alan Buckley etc. RE: Our Home Form - BaggieMan - 12-11-2014 Pie, didn't we have a bad home run with RDM where we were winning away from home a lot but picking up points at the Hawthorns seemed a major task. Thinking about it, it may have been Uncle Woy. (It's my age you know!) It's hardly surprising the atmosphere is crap when the same adjective applies to what you are watching. RE: Our Home Form - JH Baggie - 12-11-2014 Are you guys ST holders? Only reason I ask is because, tbf, the atmosphere on a whole...has been decent this season. The ground was rocking vs United and Burnley. Maybe, if you don't have a ST...you picked a bad one. After all, it was a Sunday and a poor performance! Be interested to find out where you sit also? Makes a huge difference! RE: Our Home Form - pieandabovril - 12-11-2014 Hi JH, No longer a Season ticket holder, but get to most Home games when I can.Usually sit in the top tier of the Brummie, close to the Halfords, which is where we were on Sunday. Due to the two tier stand, the noise from anyone chanting in the Brummie just dissipates, and by the time you pick up the chant, everyone else has finished! Only exception being TLMS and of course the boing boinging! What I found unusual is that you can always hear the Smethwick loud and clear, both home and away Supporters, but against Newcastle,we could only hear the Toon singing! RE: Our Home Form - talkSAFT - 12-11-2014 Hi JH. Long time no speak. I moved to Cornwall 3 yrs ago, giving up my ST, but I made Sunday's game, and the Everton game, and both occasions the backing was very poor. It's embarassing to hear opposing fans telling us our support is flipping shish, and many will say "why should we back them when they're playing such crap", but that's the measure of good supporters to me: ie those who back them when they're crap - not when they're winning......that's easy! RE: Our Home Form - Bournemouth Baggie - 12-11-2014 JH, you found us, welcome onboard! I have only managed one home game, Everton, and found it quiet. That said the away games, Saints and Bournemouth we have been noisier than the home support so not sure what the correlation is. I don't think we're alone however, was at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime and it was like a morgue all round RE: Our Home Form - Sanjay - 12-11-2014 I think the atmosphere can be a great indicator on how well the team's playing. If they put in a good shift and are seen to be giving 100%, the fans will respond - as they have done on a number of occasions. There's no doubt the fans can be the 12th man, and I dare say that if only we could get fired up to get behind them when the're under performing as well as when they're playing well, this would lift them - but it's easier said than done:on occasions to summon up enthusiasm when what you're experiencing is anything but entertaining! RE: Our Home Form - WillieJohnstonsGreenhouse - 12-11-2014 It's the sates chep (seriously) After being a season-ticketer for many years pre-seating the whole place has changed dramatically. Sadly I simply cannot afford a season ticket so I go when I can (4 or 5 a season) When I had my first ST in the early 70's (a) I was spoilt absoluteley rotten with beautiful football (b) I had Bowie and Roxy to look up to (and punk to come ![]() © If you didn't sing, you felt out of it - it wasn't forced you just had to (d) The Brummie WAS The Albion End In answer to the question - it takes effort, I think everyone who supports The Mighty Baggies wants to shout from the rooftops but sitting down does not encourage it Quite simply that's why away fans sound louder - they don't sit down (and I hate it) PS - Nice to see you JH RE: Our Home Form - talkSAFT - 13-11-2014 True - I find it almost impossible to sing or chant when they're playing crap. (Like getting a stiffy when your Mrs is moaning). But we have done it in the past in adverse times, and I'd be very disappointed if it didn't gee-up the team if we raised the roof from the start. As Pie said: bring back The Liquidator. RE: Our Home Form - Salopbaggie - 13-11-2014 I have made most of the home games this season and although the chanting is "marginally" better than last season. it is still pretty dire when compared to games of yester year. On Sunday I could not make the game, due to there not being any trains on a Sunday which would get me to the ground early enough so watched it on t.v. and all I could hear all throughout the game was the away support. I think talk of having nothing to cheer is a little silly, that is the whole point of cheering to get the team back on the front foot, that is a major part of being a fan for me, it is easy to keep the singing going, when you are winning, but it can have its best effect when you are losing or drawing, to give the team something to play for, to inspire them to do it for the fans, to run that bit harder or make that 50/50 ball. We had a post sometime ago about songs from years ago and I do not remember this one being mentioned, but it is relevant to this post, it was song to the tune of Lord of the Dance and went "Sing, Sing, wherever you may be, for we are the boys from the Black Country, and we'll lead you all wherever you may be we'll lead you all in a song said he " (there was another version about running and another about fighting, but I preferred this version.) As much as I love The Liquidator, and yes it does stir the fans up and brings back many memories, the fact that it is not played, at the request of the police if my memory serves me correctly, should not be any reason why the fans are not getting behind the team and supporting them as vocally as possibly |
