Goodbye Gozie - Devongone - 20-09-2018 "Good afternoon. We have today agreed a deal with Boreham Wood for Gozie Ugwu to join them on loan until the end of the season. Take care, Martin" Taking into account that they won 0-4 at Sutton Utd this week and they have the young manager I was hoping we'd get rather than MA ............ maybe it looks as though I wasn't the only one who thought Gozie could actually do it. BUT I have to admit he not only hasn't done it for us, he hasn't looked very likely. Expectations of him delivering 17-20 goals a season were always likely to be beyond him, but he should be a man you could look to score you 10-15 a season. And zero is definitely off the pace, so loaning him out isn't a decision I can quibble with, though destination Boreham Wood, currently in the play-off zone, seems a bit of a hostage to fortune. If he starts doing a Ricky German Bobs Board is going to go into meltdown again. RE: Goodbye Gozie - bluepooch - 21-09-2018 I looked at the Youtube clip of Gozie's goals for Woking and cannot believe it is the same person I have been watching since last summer .What is it about our club that totally renders previously productive strikers impotent ? .Why cant they produce exotic spresms on a regular basis ? . RE: Goodbye Gozie - Devongone - 21-09-2018 Just the image of Vince Cable and an exotic spresm is hard to take. I think a lot of what happened to Gozie was about confidence. Things went right at Woking. They made him their penalty-taker too. I reckon a similar thing is happening to Ricky German at Hendon (we knocked all the confidence he'd built up in our Juniors, at Hendon where he was an unknown things went right straightaway and hey presto). Going into a very bad team and immediately getting a serious injury left Gozie feeling as though he needed to play catch-up for us when he finally got the chance to play ...... the more he tried the less he achieved. He's a clever gamble by Boreham Wood, but whatever he achieves there he probably wouldn't have managed for us ...... |
