Had Enough - spireitematt - 09-09-2018 Sat down today looking forward to watching England vs Spain and I put on ITV hoping to see Southgate and the team which did us immensely proud during the World Cup and put faith back into the England team, ended up seeing Harry Bloody Potter! Turns out the England game was on Sky Sports as they have the rights to the UEFA Nations League. England play a friendly on Tuesday against Switzerland which is being played at King Power Stadium (Leicester City's ground) turns out that is on bloody Sky! as well! Do they have the rights to all the England games now?? After such a successful World Cup which captured the imagination of the nation they now expect the nation to pay £25 a month or whatever it is to watch the National team, it's a ******* disgrace and I've had enough. They did this with the cricket back in 2005. Before 2005 majority of England test matches were on C4 and after we won the Ashes in 2005 and everyone got behind the team, Sky Sports then go and buy the rights. Same with bloody BT as well. Was looking forward to going to FC Halifax vs Chesterfield and BT decided to televise the game and put the kick off back from 3pm to 5:15pm. Really pisses me off as its our National sport and Football should be for everyone, not just for an elite few who can afford TV packages. Turns out Sky have all England matches except the actual qualifying games and tournaments such as Euro's or World Cup. RE: Had Enough - bluepooch - 09-09-2018 I hope everyone is put off watching England due to the decisions by the greedy people who are only after the buck, mind you they probably don't care .Its the same with the cricket team . I know the score was 1-2 but I don't even know who played for England last night . RE: Had Enough - Devongone - 10-09-2018 If we go down just one more level we won't have to worry about any of this. You just get to have fun watching the football and players who actually want to play. Sometimes I think if we had kept Danny Wilson instead of sacking him and employing Caldwell would we have stayed in L1 or at least be a L2 club? RE: Had Enough - bluepooch - 10-09-2018 All this stuff about budgets is pure guesswork .Nobody knows if Caldwell had less than Wilson or more than Lester etc. MA has touched on a figure of 1.2 mill reduction but still don't know what the budget is .Its safe to guess that MA has the lowest budget of the lot ,I certainly hope so for his sake judging by some of the dross we are seeing so far . RE: Had Enough - Devongone - 11-09-2018 I always thought Danny had the most chance of keeping us up, because he knew the club and the problems doing anything at all. Caldwell had to learn the intricacies of that, recruit what he could at the end of a transfer window, inspire a failing team and introduce his new ideas (which turned out to be fairly inappropriate anyway). If Danny had to go and we did give him nearly two years, which is quite a long tenure these days and he did make mistakes which weren't all due to the budget, then The Hump would have been a better bet to save us IMO. Pooch is right about budgets and guesswork. Everyone on Bob's seems to know who had what and how much we received for who ......... Yesterday we found out from MA that we got only £90,000 for Kristian Dennis. With Notts County on one point and him still struggling to play a full 90 minutes that is beginning now to look reasonable, but when Bradford City were after him in the previous window figures from £150,000 - £200,000 were in the air. From the outside it looked as though Danny didn't get anywhere near the budget Deano had been wasting. Though both Jack Lester and Caldwell were complete failures it wasn't so much financial profligacy that was the problem as recruiting such rubbish that any price and any wage was too much. And to be fair O'Grady seems to have been more an expensive gift from our Owner that we had to pay for ourselves, than the choice of our manager. But all of that is guesswork ..... and that is one of the great problems with all clubs run like ours. Very little is open and transparent ..... and if for a moment it appears to be open, then we ALL question why that is and what's happening. RE: Had Enough - SaltergateBorn - 12-09-2018 Fair point, Dev. I still think though that, on balance, we`re best sticking with MA for the duration as I really can`t think of anyone who`s likely to do a better job ion our circumstances. May be, though, that`s because I do so like his openness - which is in great contrast to what`s gone on before. The attitude of the club towards the supporters before he arrived seemed to be `just turn up, pay your money and don`t ask awkward questions`. `Treated with contempt` might be a slight exaggeration but not too much of one, to my way of thinking. At least MA genuinely seems to be trying to engage with the fanbase and I`m prepared to give him a hell of a lot of credit for that. Having said that, some of his announcements do seem to be getting more and more surreal. On the one hand, you could be critical and say that his recent actions scream of desperation, but on the other you could credit him for not letting the grass grow and for trying to solve problems without dithering. I honestly have no idea which it is yet, but I suspect time will tell. I agree with you entirely, Matt, about the ethics of modern football and the attitude towards its followers. But then, you should know that from the comments I`ve made on numerous threads in the past. How did ABBA put it? "Money, money, money....." RE: Had Enough - Devongone - 12-09-2018 I largely agree SGB ....... but I would always be critical of MA, or any other manager. I've got my own ideas. That doesn't mean they are better, but occasionally they might be worth a pause for thought, as would yours. But I can't see where we would recruit someone who would certainly be better than MA. Maybe we could look at a team that is being successful lower down, like say Stamford, pinch some up-and-comer/s, and hope that like Lincoln City we'd be bringing in people with a magic wand. But how long did Lincoln languish down here before they solved the problem, and was it judgement or dumb luck? I would say MA does seem VERY old-fashioned and I'm worried that now Plan A hasn't worked he's hitting the random button hoping a Plan B will emerge. But I'm sure he wants to be open, that his heart is in the right place and that he does care. He has also succeeded in doing exactly what we want in the past. And there is something I like about him. I can imagine that playing for him you'd want to win the game. And I am sure that despite our avalanche of defeats this is a man who is looking to win (and I've honestly not been sure that was a priority for our last two managers).
