Reality Check...... - Arcane Astral Aeons - 06-09-2018 so many negative posts on here regarding our transfers(or in certain cases lack off...) what do you lot expect?....big name signings? we are, whether we like it,now are a championship side. attracting big names aint gonna happen people moaning about DM and his certain formations, and his team selections. give the guy a chance after all its his first managerial role he wont always get it right, but its a learning curve for him. the players we have released(Gmac,Yacob..etc etc)have served us well, but it`s time to move on. i wish all of them success at whatever clubs they end up at and thank them for the service they have given our beloved club. we have already had had a few reminders of how tough this division will be, but we have been here before and managed to negotiate our way out of it not saying we will get out of it at the first time of asking but please you lot lets give this new look side a chance we are all Albion supporters....and a great bunch at that. RE: Reality Check...... - Blue Baggie - 06-09-2018 Interesting post - The main issue I have is how the club is being run in general. The cost cutting has been nothing short of criminal. I will say again - with our parachute payments and our flex down contracts we didn't need to get rid of anybody for financial reasons. Attracting "DACK" was an over expectation? Selling Chadli without a replacement was pathetic. As was shipping Myhill out and then getting him back. I could go on and on. So many poor decisions by the management, your confusing negative comments with concerns. We all want the best for our team. Our new owners don't appear to be interested though? An absent owner who invests £8 million in a Chinese player and then sends him out on loan. This is where our overdraft came from - He should have made the shortfall up IMO. Big D has a chance, if he plays the youngsters and we come good great. We can only judge DM on his results. If we fail then Darren has to go - that's football. You're probably correct, we could have kept the squad from last year. The trouble is we wouldn't have been able to bring anyone in so we'd have been left with the same ageing, slow, couldn't be ar**ed squad that did so well last year, and that wouldn't have been capable of playing the way DM appears to want. We had no choice but to cut costs - our revenue has dropped by £40 to £50 million. Even after all of the cuts, and with the parachute payments, I would be very surprised if we manage to break even this year. We aren't in the premier league any more and the days of having 3rd choice defensive midfielders starting a handful of games a season paid £30k a week are over until we get back. RE: Reality Check...... - BaggieSteve - 06-09-2018 As disappointed as I was to see GMac and Yacob leave, I understood the desire to reduce the squad age and start rebuilding. Neither did I expect any stellar signings, after all we’ve just been relegated so keeping Dawson and Rodriguez seemed a good outcome. My concern is the apparent desire to replace old players with equally old players. So, cheerio Gareth and Claudio, hello Tyrone, Wes and Russell. It’s not as though we needed sone older heads in the squad to balance a team of youthful tyros- we’ve already got Brunt, Morrison, Barry, Dawson etc. Let’s be honest, with the exception of the Carabao Cup, he’s not playing the exciting youngsters we have. My expectation was not not big money signings, it was a more youthful first XI. I was clearly wrong on that score RE: Reality Check...... - Blue Baggie - 06-09-2018 (06-09-2018, 21:44)Zinman Wrote: "The cost cutting has been nothing short of criminal. Evans Yes / Chadli didn't play, but i will say Yes. Yacob / Gmac / Myhill / GBor / McClean / Rondon / Nyom / Foster / Greg / Sturridge - I would say No Most of these were certainly being overpaid and even with flex down they weren't VFM I'm happy Dave is changing the way we play, he hasn't made enough changes to the team as yet. I would like Harper, Edwards and Field to be given a chance before these old ens take the chances away. Sell that Chinese guy who's been out on loan, (sorry I've forgot his name) that's £8 million back in the coffers. Another bright Chinese Idea that robbed us of millions, I won't forget. McLean was never going to stick around pretended he cared about playing for us Sturridge was never staying as he was only on loan(kept the medical staff busy at least) Foster? i don`t begrudge him another shot in the prem, but him leaving left a sour taste especially after he said he would be staying what we have now i`m fairly happy with, give them a few more games and we shall see what they are made of,Barnes i`m really impressed with this side once they gel together could be a good championship side can they get up promoted?...lets see long season ahead lets all stay confident RE: Reality Check...... - WBA-Josh - 07-09-2018 For me whilst I think our transfer business was a success and we have been left with a good squad, the squad is lacking in a few key areas. At right back we only have Mears whilst Dawson can cover there and if Big Dave intends to stick with playing 3 centre backs then he needs another centre back as cover. My worry is what happened to our budget in the final few weeks. We went from spending money to looking at frees in Mears with only Dack a big money option which we left too late. Big Dave has seemingly been restricted to the British market without a Sporting Director. It begs the question why didn’t we appoint a Sporting Director before the Head Coach? After Hammond went we brought in a consultant rather than spend the time to bring in SD. To me that shows a lack of football understanding by the owner who brought in Terraneo. Had we brought in an SD first, Big Dave could have had his eyes opened to the markets outside of the UK. The German 2nd Division in particular has some good talented players within it that we could have looked at and saved money in the process. Regarding formation and team selections, I think Big Dave has come across a very good system to play at home. The 3412 allows us to play attacking, flowing football. Livermore and Brunt together is still a concern though. Away from home is where Big Dave needs to still tweek. The 3412 leaves us too open so in my opinion he needs to revert to a back four with the same eleven and Dawson covering at right back. |
