Martin and Hoofball - Devongone - 29-08-2018

Good afternoon.

Well, the last couple of weeks has certainly brought everybody back down to earth with a bump.

It sure has been a testing time, one way or another and we will all, for sure, be better off for the experiences and the challenges we have faced. We all learn a lot about ourselves in adversity, in how we react and how we respond.

At times we’ve been very unlucky, at times we’ve been unfortunate, but overall we have not done enough to have won these games. I cannot fault the work-rate and desire of our players. They are a decent, honest, hard-working group of men and I am convinced that with the excellent work ethic and professionalism, we can win games and climb back to where we were just two weeks ago.

People have mentioned the lack of atmosphere here at home games and wondered why it was so quiet. The answer to that is simple. The responsibility is down to me and the players. Football played without winning tackles, without winning headers, being one-paced and constant hoof-ball and the people who pay have every right to be quiet or critical.

All fans love to see their players play with passion, with high energy and a desire to win and want to see the players come off that pitch at the end of the game exhausted, having run themselves into the ground. And then, I know, having been stood in that technical area, what a great experience it is to listen to the singing, having watched our team play superbly well.

I look forward to seeing and hearing you at five to three on Saturday afternoon.

Take care,

Martin

I copied this over from our website for your reactions. I can't fault the man's honesty. I'm sure he means it at the time he writes, but he also told us he didn't want any more players and immediately signed two, wrote about Chelsea's £72 million Kepa not exciting him more than Shwan Jalal and then he signed Callum Burton ........

If the team is working hard and doing its best now how are we going to beat the teams that are currently beating us, because that is what we'll need to get back where we were? When you break it down, does it hold water, or is there a hole in his bucket?

It's a lovely, emotional appeal and I like him for it, but I wonder whether he is getting to grips with the problem.
