Betfred Cup: Hibs v Ross County, Sunday 19 Aug, KO 3.00pm - 0762 - 17-08-2018 Well it's back to the nitty gritty domestic matches after a reasonable attempt at Europa League qualification. I must say I'm not as enthused this time around as Euro matches were far more interesting. I'm also wondering if there will be any after effect following that unsatisfactory away performance in Molde when Hibs long, unbeaten run came to an end with the loss of some avoidable crappy goals TBH. I notice Hibs ex player/captain, Ian Murray, commenting that Hibs need to add some quality if we are gonna progress this season. IMO it's too early to say if that is the case and also I've stated I thought Neil was naive in not dealing with the threat of Molde's star player, Halland, and Hibs would not have lost in this way if I had my tactics and warnings imposed on the players from the off! Anyway it's done! I'm expecting the manager to "freshen up" the team a wee bit and I think Horgan and Agyepong should be involved in this cup tie at some point. I'm interested in Hibs midfield performances now that John McGinn has left the club as I perceive that we are now a weaker team. Also Efe looks like he is injured. So a defensive change is likely. We need to strengthen our defence in some way with Darren Mac being injured for a while. I wouldn't mind seeing Ryan Porteous being played in a defensive mid role just to see how he handles it. GGTTH RE: Betfred Cup: Hibs v Ross County, Sunday 19 Aug, KO 3.00pm - 0762 - 19-08-2018 http://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/news/9098 FT and Hibs win 3-2 in a real topsy-turvy match that started with Lenny fielding a weaker Hibs team - Kamberi, Maclaren, Bartley, Whittaker, Hanlon all non starters and young Martin given a start with Hyndman. Efe deemed fit to play but playing alongside young Porteous!? Anyway, the game finally won by a cracking Horgan "swerving" shot in the dying mins after the Staggies took the lead twice in what was effectively a very entertaining "end to end" cup tie and Efe dallying to give away a "howler" of a pk/Ross Co 2nd goal. A win is a win and "job done". The cup draw gives us the Dons at ER in the quarter-final. One last comment re the refereeing standard again. This time it's our "friend", Kevin Clancy! County's mid player, Draper, had been persistently fouling from the start of this game onwards. He is finally given a yellow card early in the 2nd half, then about 15 mins later cynically takes out Martin Boyle!? It's an easy 2nd yellow/red card but suddenly Clancy wishes to change the basic rules of footie by issuing a final warning to Draper!? Sorry Mr Clancy, that is not how it works, particularly for such a serial offender in this game - disgraceful judgement and utterly wrong!! ![]() GGTTH RE: Betfred Cup: Hibs v Ross County, Sunday 19 Aug, KO 3.00pm - hibeejim21 - 19-08-2018 Thought we were a bit poor the day, but we got the job done in the end. County's height and strength caused us bother. Martin didn't do too badly until he copped a sore one, and horgan showed his quality at times but its going to take time for the new players to 'bed in'. efe is efe. Thought he was fine first half, then gifted a pk in the 2nd. Mallan and boyle looked knackered but stevie scored a fine goal. Clancy was appalling. No surprises there though. |
