John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - 0762 - 07-08-2018 It looks like a "done deal" with Aston Villa and a good one for John and Hibs FC. However, the question still arises: "Will he be successful in this English footie league"? I wish him all the best and hope he plays to expectations. But the Championship is a bit of a "graveyard" for many an ambitious Scottish player who moved from a Scottish league that sometimes makes certain players look better than they really are until they move to an English league that is full of players who are far more accountable and durable. Abject failure eventually ensues. We shall see! RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - hibeejim21 - 07-08-2018 Apparently he has asked for the evening to 'think it over'. RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - 0762 - 08-08-2018 Waiting for Celtic to "make a move" Jim? I notice Rodgers "banging on" tonight re still needing to replace players who he has lost, particularly Stuart Armstrong. Is the timing mere coincidence? RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - hibeejim21 - 08-08-2018 Maybe mate....maybe. He is entitled to 24 hrs to mull it over, its happened pretty fast. Then like you say i heard rodgers talking the night, and clearly no happy with lawwell dragging this out. Maybe he is giving celtic a chance to match their deal. Allegedly he will score 15-20k a week at villa. RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - hibeejim21 - 08-08-2018 And hey presto....both clubs have had bids accepted apparently. So john has the choice now. Villa are offering him more in wages though. RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - St Charles Owl - 08-08-2018 Where would you guys prefer he go?? Go to your biggest competitor or down to England? RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - hibeejim21 - 08-08-2018 From what I've heard he wanted to go to celtic, but villa have offered him more money and guaranteed first team football. Villa could well be a better move for him. Fee just below 3 million agreed according to ssn. RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - 0762 - 08-08-2018 But remember Saint Mirren will pick up 30% of the "sell on fee"! RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - hibeejim21 - 08-08-2018 Hmmm. Oh well. I'm sure we got the best deal we could. Good luck to the laddie,i think villa have got a good one there. RE: John McGinn - will he make it in the Sky Bet Championship? - 1Wattie - 08-08-2018 £3 is a joke fee for a player of Johns` class and Celtic know it very well. They are playing on the fact that he would prefer Celtic and have hung on till the last minute knowing this. He will be on far less money at Parkhead but we should not point fingers should he decide to go there even although there is no guarantee of first team football. He`s good enough but Celtic are looking on him as a successor to Scott Brown, who they stole from us at well below his true worth. -And people say lightning doesn`t strike twice in the same place. |
