Muggleton In - Devongone - 31-07-2018 Nepotism is always only a throw-in away. RE: Muggleton In - Dancingwilldoit - 31-07-2018 Could be our secret weapon for last 20 mins or so. As long as he doesn't draft his wife in as a striker we should be ok. RE: Muggleton In - spireitematt - 31-07-2018 Can he throw a kettle over the pub? RE: Muggleton In - Devongone - 01-08-2018 Well he may not have been popular at the clubs he's played for, but he really doesn't have to be a great player with that throw on him. He's only 22, surely we can do something original with him. A couple of teams were using long throws to cause confusion in the World Cup and even at that level it worked, but there was nothing on view like Sam. For sure he sounds like a fugee from The Lord of the Rings, and the rest of his skillset might be better suited to playing against elves and goblins, but that throw is something no defender or keeper will relish. Surely we could set up a lot of different moves from it? It is so long that even a throw-in on the halfway line will push a defence far further back than it would want to be, and we do have defenders in Evans, Maguire and Nelson who might score goals if pushed up in such circumstances. If it were me I'd arrange shoulder massage and physio, for Sam every single day and he'd be practising hitting the angle of the far post and crossbar on a regular basis. It's just a nightmare for a keeper to have to make up that ground and decide whether to touch the ball, or leave it to go over the bar. Let him train with Joe Anyon, it'll improve Anyon's keeping no end. RE: Muggleton In - Dancingwilldoit - 01-08-2018 An extra pair of hands and junior sized goalposts wouldn't improve Anyon as a keeper. RE: Muggleton In - bluepooch - 01-08-2018 This throw is like a set piece and any throw ins we get in the opposition half he should be utilised .It would double the number of our set pieces per game .The problem is if he doesn't do anything else in the game can we justify playing him regularly .As has been mentioned ,maybe last 15 minutes or start him and take him off if he isnt effective .Certainly we would need to play for the throw ins if he is playing and how would that affect our style of play ? .Does the law still allow an opposing player to stand directly in front of the thrower ? If so, this could nullify the threat . RE: Muggleton In - bluepooch - 02-08-2018 On this site you'll see most expect us to finish between 7th and 10th .I chuffin' hope they're wrong . https://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/national-league-predict-the-league-2018-19.20158/page-3 RE: Muggleton In - Devongone - 02-08-2018 We have to score goals. We have to sow confusion in the opposition defence to do that. We haven't done that for over two seasons. Send Muggleton on in the last 15 and it's just an admission we've run out ideas. Start him. Rain those throws in on them before they've had chance to settle in. Put the goalie under pressure at the start, don't warm him up for 75 minutes then expect Muggleton to unsettle him. Make that young centre back shaky. And to be useful we have to make sure it isn't always the same throw. He has to get some coming flatter and harder, some higher and longer .......... AND why not learn from rugby, they have line-out codes so everyone knows what is happening? Shout Beans and the throw goes not to head but over the top into space for Zavon Hines to run onto ...... that kinda thing. So it and Muggleton become an important part of our play that we rehearse in training. If we just say oh last 15 if we're desperate we'll make nothing much of the player, or our own attacking potential. We'll turn him into the poor player people want to tell us he is. It's like you have a dead-ball specialist you have to find the best ways to use him - Ronaldo had had 49 unsuccessful attempts at that kick before his equaliser against Spain. If we look at the last 15 we're making this throw perhaps a two-goal a season threat at best. We shouldn't be looking at what Muggleton can't do, we should be looking at what he can do exceptionally well ........ making it even better ........ and using it to win matches. Clearly the teams he's played for haven't really done that. He should easily be worth 10 assists a season. AND when he throws it isn't just the big guys we want in on it. We need a Lee Shaw picking up the pieces and getting in on goal. There are 23 other teams up against us. Some will include quite moderate players too, but I can guarantee you that none of them will have a guy who can throw like that! No one looks at a goalscorer who is top of the charts and moans ....... his control's not great and he can't pick a pass if he's getting 30 goals a season. We forgive the guy barely raising a tackle in midfield if he's whipping in corners and free-kicks that terrify the opposition. Maybe if we cut Muggleton a bit of slack and really value what he can do for us, we might find out he's a bit more of a player than anyone has given him credit for. And worth a start. |
