Europa League 2nd quali round: Hibs v Asteras Tripolis - 0762 - 20-07-2018

So Hibs eliminate NSI Runavik and we move on to a more challenging quali tie v a Greek side that Hibs have never played before. This will be an interesting confrontation with the 1st leg being played at ER Stadium on Thursday 26 July.

An interesting tie in prospect and one we could do very well in.After last nights performance by our defence Lenny will be raging at how easily we lost the first 2 goals and he`ll take steps to ensure we tighten up for games to come. On a positive note we scored more goals then we lost. shouldn`t be too downhearted at a 12-5 combined victory.
I think we played Olympiacos in the Fair Cities cup back in the late 60`s` but can`t remember playing any other Greek team.

We played AEK athens not so long ago

I know nothing about this mob,no idea what to expect. But we should definitely be wary of playing anyone at this stage of the season when we are still in pre-season mode and adjusting the squad.

I hope it is not as physically demanding as that AEK match at ER Stadium, which was quite a sensational one in many respects with Frank "Le God" Sauzee "carted" with a bad facial injury after about 20 mins and that "screamer" of a last mins Zitelli shot/Hibs goal from 40 yards that won the game 3-2 in ET plus all the Greek faking/simulation and time-wasting tactics during that match - well remembered as well as Luna's last secs "miss" right in front of the AEK goal to win the tie outright inside 90 mins!

Just back and what a great match to watch - ER Stadium for thrills n spills! But our goalie, Bogdan, has let us down rather badly on the two conceded goals to go 0-2 down in the 1st half. Their coach clearly "did his homework" and singled out Efe for special attention by their left wing back and what a torrid time he was given!! Whittaker also "mince" in Hibs midfield from the start and missed an absolute "sitter" in the 1st half from a corner kick - rightly "hooked" at HT and Lenny applied a master stroke of a tactical change with David Gray dominating Hibs right flank and scoring a super sub equalising goal after Efe's 63rd min opening goal. And ER Stadium "bouncing" after that last min winning goal by a fairly quiet Kamberi - 3-2. John McGinn given the MOTM award and IMO well deserved - we're gonna miss him when his transfer is eventually confirmed.

Saw the scorewhen you were 2-0 down and then saw the turnaround this morning, great result!

Thought lennon set us up wrong to start but we were alright, however bogdan had an absolute mare so it looked tie over at half time. But we changed it and moved slivka inside and got on the 'front foot'. We could have scored a few more last night when you think about it (and had a pk i think)

Ambrose was all over the shop at times but went on to put in some vital headers and score an important goal.

Mcginn was inspirational and any english club watching will surely see the 3 million price as an absolute bargain.

Great atmosphere in the stadium last night - its going to be tough in greece but we have given ourselves a wee chance to go through.

RE: Europa League 2nd quali round: Hibs v Asteras Tripolis - 1Wattie - 27-07-2018

Great result especially after a disastrous first half. Celtic won`t come near us with a £3m offer for Mcginn now, his performance last night surely puts him in the £5+ bracket and that will frighten them off.
Tough game in prospect next week but it could have been mission impossible but for our second half comeback. A draw is a lot easier than a 3-0 win.

RE: Europa League 2nd quali round: Hibs v Asteras Tripolis - 0762 - 29-07-2018

Definitely a tough task. I expect a defensive strategy from Lenny - hold the advantage we have and play for a draw but target a 0-1 result.
