Pre-season friendlies - WBA-Josh - 27-05-2018

Already revealed are friendlies against Barnet and Swindon.

https://www.wba.co.uk/news/2018/may/first-pre-season-fixtures-confirmed/

I was having a look on German team Union Berlin’s website and it says that we are playing them in Berlin at their Stadion an der alten Försterei on the 21st July. It hasn’t been announced by WBA yet but Union wouldn’t put on their website if it wasn’t true.

If any of you plan to go to it then fly to Berlin’s Schönefeld Airport (South of Berlin) and get on a train to Köpenick in the South-East of Berlin. There’s a very good pentahotel in the centre of Köpenick. The stadium is a 5-10 minute walk away from the train station. I was there in January and it is a good stadium. 18,000 standing and 3,000 seats. The away end is also all standing. The Union Berlin fans are a delightful, very passionate bunch and the ultras are very creative with their choreography. They are also very welcoming to non-German fans.

Whilst in Germany, I’d love us to play some other German teams from the 2. Bundesliga. Maybe Holstein Kiel in the North of Germany on the coast or Dynamo Dresden which is south of and a couple of hours from Berlin.

RE: Pre-season friendlies - Beefy 1965 - 27-05-2018

Not sure I'm correct but im sure I read Moore had cancelled all pre season trips abroad this year, instead going back to the old formatt of home friendlies with the last one at home the week before kick off ?
I may be wrong Wink

RE: Pre-season friendlies - WBA-Josh - 27-05-2018

On the wba link I posted about the friendlies arranged it does say,

“But there are no plans to take in any overseas fixtures”.

That was from the 25th May yet the Union Berlin official website says that we’re going to play them in Berlin and that was put on a couple of weeks ago.

It is very strange. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I hope it goes ahead because Union Berlin will be a good test for us and we will be a good test for them.

RE: Pre-season friendlies - Amelia Chaffinch - 28-05-2018

Some of the Dynamo Dresden fans come to Town when they can. We signed Michael Hefele from them. He has a cult following and they are a bit madcap but that's what we like. Oh and Hef scored one of the weirdest goals with his arse against Villa so that may endear him to yourselves!

I went on a tour of Germany many years ago now but, on the whole, they were fab people. I hope you get to do your pre-season there.

Dynamo Dresden is a good club that has been through some hard times. From what I’ve seen of their fans since their promotion back to the 2. Bundesliga, they are very passionate and really some of the best in Germany for passion. The only thing I really don’t like is the right-wing Nationalism core to their ultras.

Welcome Thumb up Im sure if you dont go up will end up hating this league just as much as we have been doing for the past 5 years Doh yes you will get more wins im sure Thumb up but the despair when you lose to teams like Brentford as you think youve got 3pts in the bag before the game starts that you will realy love in this league Whistle

Anyway good luck and all the best accept against us that is !

Not happening according to this Josh;

Back to basics, so Swindon and the likes it will be.

I can understand the back to basics approach but we also need to test ourselves against clubs of a similar ilk. Playing Barnet and Swindon won’t help us next season in the Championship. We need a couple of friendlies against good teams who can give us a good game.

Union Berlin are actually in England for their final friendly against QPR on Saturday 28th July so maybe they could also play us during that same week at the Hawthorns.
