RE: Ray Wilson - Lord Snooty - 16-05-2018

Sad news. But then again, Alzheimer's! Probably a blessing. Sad

RE: Ray Wilson - themaclad - 16-05-2018

A lot of the 66 team apparently have Alzheimer's

RE: Ray Wilson - Lord Snooty - 16-05-2018

Yes. Martin Peters and Nobby Stiles have.
Ray still used to come to a few Town matches, but when he was to be commemorated at the recent game against Everton, he was too poorly to attend. Sad

A special vintage was the 66 team

A truly wonderful player by the highest standards of any era and I remember Pele saying he was his most difficult opponent. He had a great full back partnership with Denis Atkins at a time when Town went on to produce many good backs - Parkin, Cattlin and McNab spring to mind. Remember walking to Leeds Road with my pals and seeing him walking with his Gladstone bag with his boots with the rest of the throng. Wished him luck and he smiled and thanked us. A modest and unassuming man and a stark contrast to many [not all] modern 'stars.'
Remember going to Stoke to see Stanley Matthews' return to the Potteries. Wilson had him in his pocket - but it wasn't convenient for the papers to report it that way.
A true legend and someone to be admired, cherished and respected for all aspects and achievements of his life both socially and professionally. Rest in Peace, Ray.

I were still a nipper when I got shoved off the end of my schoolmate's chaise-longue at his birthday party when England's goals went in that June afternoon in 1966. Never sat on another one since. Though I'd been to Leeds Road a few times by then he was already at Everton. I learned of his Huddersfield connection soon after. Never met the bloke, but never met anyone who's had a bad word to say about him. Gone but won't be forgotten.
