RIP Graham Lovett !!! - Beefy 1965 - 10-05-2018 I'm not familiar with Graham Lovett, I was only 3 when the FA cup final was played , but he's a Baggie so RIP Graham ![]() Tom Ross ...... I am shocked to hear of the passing of Albion 1968 FACup winning legend Graham Lovett-had some wonderful and fun times with him in the Albion All Stars charity team in the 80s. Thoughts with his family RIP Shuv #WBAFC RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - 4evaabaggie - 10-05-2018 Beefy you old git ....... the 68 cup final was three months before my second birthday .... Again I did no know Graham .... I had heard the name ..... but he is a baggie, he was part of the great Baggies side of the 60's ...... how old was he?. Sad news, sorry to hear of his passing, thoughts and prayers to his family and friends ...... Graham your an Albion legend, we love you, we miss you already .... you'll never be forgotten .. RIP RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - talkSAFT - 10-05-2018 Oh, shit! Our Relegation must have finished him off. Such an underrated player. We took him for granted back in the 60s because he was yet another product of the Youth team which kept producing International class youngsters (eg Hope, Brown, Cantello, Robertson, Hartford, then Robson, Moses etc). Astle, Johnny Kaye, Chippy, Hopey, and Bomber were the stars along with Shuvit (as Jeff used to call him), but if he didn't have those stars around him he'd have been a god - he really was as good, if not better - and he was only about 20 in '68! We called Graham the new Duncan Edwards, and he was just like him in every way. But he broke his neck and leg in separate incidents, as I recall, and probably came back into the 68 Cup Final a few weeks too early. I actually wrote to Alf Ramsey back in 1970, begging him to get his arse up to an Albion match and have a look at Astle and Lovett. (I got no reply, but Astle made the Mexico trip!) Injury forced him out of the Albion team in about '73, when he must have been only 24-25, but I regularly watched him play for Solihull Borough. No Mr.Big about him in the Club bar afterwards either. Smashing bloke, but so underrated. RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - BaggieSteve - 10-05-2018 (10-05-2018, 10:12)talkSAFT Wrote: Oh, shit! Our Relegation must have finished him off. I remember him well, remember when he broke into the Albion team. He was a very talented skilful player who I'm sure would have gone on to greater things but for the shocking injuries he suffered, as you said Talksaft. I have a feeling one of them was the result of a car accident but I could be wro. So sad to hear of his death, it's not been a great year for our past Albion heroes RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - Beefy 1965 - 10-05-2018 (10-05-2018, 09:37)4evaabaggie Wrote: Beefy you old git ....... the 68 cup final was three months before my second birthday .... I'm sure both his injuries were from car crashes. RiP, Graham RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - BaggieMan - 10-05-2018 I remember Graham Lovett well and I was there for the 1968 Cup Final. As quoted on an earlier post, Graham was an outstanding player and was compared with the late Duncan Edwards. He was strong, skilful and would have had an outstanding career had it not been for serious injuries. I suspect he would have been in his late 60’s or early 70’s. RIP Baggie Legend. RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - bomberbrown1968 - 10-05-2018 After following my dear old Dad ![]() News of another Albion old boy passing as well, Ken Hodgkisson who played a few games for us in the 50's, RIP gents, you were both part of our very special family ![]() RE: RIP Graham Lovett !!! - Worldclassalbion - 11-05-2018 Lovett survived two horrendous car crashes, one with a bus where he was told he’d never play again, actually breaking his neck I believe. I’m too young to have seen him play but RIP Graham. There is a program on sky under the Albion part of premier league teams where Jeff Stelling interviews John Kaye, Graham Williams and Lovett. It’s brilliant and quite funny. |
