Prediction League 2019 New Scoring System !! - Beefy 1965 - 25-04-2018
Ok guys thanks for everyone taking part in our suggestion thread about a new scoring system for 2019,
If we can get a World Cup Prediction Thread going we can use it in that so everyone is use to it for the new season
In the discussions we had only one favored to keep the Gamball (as it was) and only one favored to get rid of it completely,
Everyone else seemed to like the idea of a compromise regarding the Gamball and with the help and input of a fair few others a compromise was also found on a few other issues.
Gone has the -1 score for a incorrect prediction, this then led to the removal of the Insurance ball as this will now not be needed,
The only way way to score a minus now will be with the use of your Bonus and of course the Gamball.
The talk then began of replacing the Insurance ball with another, again 3 proposals were put forward but the one that came up trumps was a Ball we are going to name the Score Ball,
Like the Insurance ball it's a free to use ball on any game, Play this ball on a game you think both teams will score in , so even if you get the prediction wrong but both teams score you will get 1 point.
You can't use the Score ball with your Bonus or Gamball.
I think we have the blessing of almost everyone now so thanks again for you thoughts It's helped to what I think will be a even better game , tighter game with more twists and turns including a extra promotion and relegation place via a play off system.
Below is how the prediction scoring system is shaping up for the World cup and the New season.
NEW SMILIES/BALLS
Bonus ball stays the same
Score Ball , .. This is the new free to use Ball , play it on a game that you think both teams will score in ! (Replaces the Insurance ball)
Gamball, the I can't look image suits this ball more than any other ........St Charles new proposal / Edited edition
Incorrect Result = 0 point
Incorrect Result (Bonus Ball) = - 2
Incorrect Result (Gamball) = -3 * changed from -4
Score Ball = 1 added Point if both teams score. !
Correct Result = + 2 points
Correct Result (Bonus Ball) = + 3 * Changed from +4
Correct Result (Gamball) = +4 * Changed from +8
Correct Score = + 4 points
Correct Score (Bonus Ball) = + 6 * Changed from +8
Correct Score (Gamball) = +8 * Changed from +16
As you can see the incorrect scoring has not really changed apart from a wrong Gamball you now gain a point if you get it wrong, was -4 now its -3.
The Insurance Ball has been replaced completely by the Score Ball. (see above)
The changes only kick in if you correctly guess a result or a correct score,
The Bonus has slightly changed with a correct result down one to 3 instead of 4 points
And a correct score Bonus down two to 6 instead of 8 points
The Gamball where the big Issue was has a huge change, a correct result will now be just 4 points down from 8
And a correct score on the Gamball will be now just 8 points instead of 16 !!
This is a 50% drop on the Gamball thus ensuring people who get lucky with just this one result/score does not affect the predictors who predict well to suffer.
This should also keep things so much tighter and keep the Interest going for most people right to the very end,
Also the third from bottom of the premiership will play off against the third in the table from the Championship to keep even more excitement going, they will have to predict through all the Playoffs and the winner obviously takes their place in the Premier League the following season

Cheers guys, that seems a fair compromise, lucky guesses every other week on the gamball will no longer punish regular accurate predictors getting non gamball results correct ......

I WONDER WHAT THE LEAGUES WOULD LOOK LIKE NOW IF WE USED THIS SCORING SYSTEM
THERE IS JUST AS MUCH SKILL IN PREDICTING A GAMEBALL AS THE OTHERS - THOUGH REDUCING POINTS FROM 16PTS MAKES SENSE.
SCORE BALL 1PT ONLY COMES INTO PLAY I ASSUME IF YOU PREDICTED 1-1,2-1 ETC, AND YOU HADN'T HAD A CORRECT RESULT, 2PTS. AM I WRONG?

If you want to go back and score 32 weeks of predictions I am sure you will get a resounding "Have at it!!!" from everyone!! I think trying it in the World Cup is the perfect way to make sure it works and make any changes if they are needed - essentially the Sportsbabble version of VAR!!!
As regards the Score Ball, you can play it on any match you want aside from the Gamball or BB matches. The score you actually predict doesn't make any difference to it, if you predict 2-0 and use it on that game and the score ends 2-1 you would score 2 points for a correct result and an extra point for the Score Ball as both teams scored. If the score ended 2-0 as you predicted you would get the +4 points for the correct score but nothing for the Score Ball as only one team scored.

BBB, makes no difference what your prediction is, if after the Gamball and your Bonus games, you went for eight 1-0 home wins , you could pick one in which you get a score ball point if the away team equalises in the last minute of added time, almost like a consolation point

Bang on SCO
Its a sneaky little ball really , get the result completely wrong but both teams score you still gain a point, I think the best part and it might be worth thinking about when you play it, a high scoring game in prospect and you go 3-2 and it comes home with the exact score = 4 points for that, and a point for both teams scoring means this sneaky little fella can scoop you up to 5 Points, a lot of things would have to fall into place for that to happen though, but it's there .........

Beefy, we currently have a mismatch between the 2 divisions, with 11 in the Premier League and only 9 in the lower league. If nobody else joins, shouldn't we even things up by only having one promotion place this season?
