Got thrown out of the ground for drinking in the stands.

I saw some with alcohol on our row. Personally, unless they are behaving inappropriately, I don't see a problem. I'm not into drinking myself but I know that for some it is essential to the experience. I have only been uncomfortable around drinkers at away matches. At home, never noticed anything untoward.

Law states though you can't drink in the stands at the football. I find it annoying when you go to the football and have to let people out of the rows because they supped that much beforehand they're having to go to the toilet every so often.

Never forget at a match in the home end at Chesterfield a guy was so tanked up that when we scored, he celebrated and nearly fell down several rows.

That's true. There's one near us that is up and down like a yo-yo. Irritates the life out of me.

I was surprised they said they weren't aware that you couldn't drink in the stands, that no one reads the many signs that state this and the terms and conditions on the tickets!! Not sure I believe them with that, seems like a convenient excuse.

I think the banning of alcohol was absolutely down to anti-social behavior by those who had a few too many, and probably rightly so when the law was put in place but I think things have moved on now so it should be looked at. Having said that I think there also needs to be consideration not for the drunkeness of fans but the spilling of beer over people when say a goal is scored. Football is a very emotive sport, people are up and down like yo-yos during most games and I would imagine a ton of beer will get spilled during a game. I attend a lot of sport over here and you can have beer anywhere, most of the time they sell it to you while you are sat in your seat with vendors walking up and down the gangways. The difference is every seat in most US stadiums comes with a built in drinks holder, usually attached to the back of the seat in front of you, so there is no need for you to hold your drink constantly and definitely not when you get animated at the event on the pitch!!

That sounds pretty luxurious.

The seats are better because they all have drinks holder and armrests but its still a seat at a sports stadium, so it's not exactly luxurious. Here is an example where you can see the drinks holder.

I'd manage to knock that cup over!

Pathetic really. What's happened to manners these days. All they had to do was tell her the rules and ask her to go back onto the concourse with her drink. To chuck her out is heavy handed nonsense and gives our great club bad publicity. These people (jobsworths) need some training in people skills.
Wherever we have been to away grounds in recent years, the stewards have all been marvellous. Why are ours pricks?

And on another note, this story attracted all the usual rubbish from rugby fans on the Examiner site about rugby fans not causing trouble blah blah blah. There has only been trouble at the John Smith's in recent years when Hull FC and Hull KR have been in town. It's decades since there was any football violence.

I don't take many of these stories at face value when all we have is one side of the story. As you said it was a simple fix, you can't drink that here please go where you can drink it, but inexplicably that didn't happen. Whether we are not getting the full story in so much as she said no, why should I do that or words to that effect or whether the steward was a prick we may never know. As you say the club need to squash this story now and move forward whatever the real truth of what went on is.
