Staying up... or going down? - Sir Megson - 04-02-2018

Thought it might be useful to bring together the debate under one thread of what our thoughts are regarding our chances of staying up.

Games remaining this season:

Chelsea (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (H)
Man U (A)
Liverpool (H)
Newcastle (A)
Spurs (H)
Palace (A)

I think the absolute bare minimum we need from those games are 5 wins & 3 draws. With our current injuries I think we've left it far too late and are only a few more dropped points away from being left behind by the pack and going down. Let's not forget we've only picked up 3 wins all season, so 5 from the last 12 is a huge ask, we'd practically need pushing for winning the league form.

It will be hard, but there are enough points and winnable games there to survive, forget the first half season, TP played to defensive and lost us to many points, we have drawn eleven games, turn a couple of draws into wins and the whole picture changes. I find it ironic that our last match to regain top flight status after 16 years out was Palace at Home, 16 years later it is Palace away to maintain our top flight status ....... ouch!

Have faith in our best 11 ......... we can do it

Second 11 due to injuries/ suspensions ........ we can't do it.

Forget Kinver Edge, forget Wenlock Edge ............ massive massive knife edge.

COME ON YOU BAGGIES ........ do it for Cryille without the pressure of yesterday.

Normally you'd target wins against the likes of Huddersfield, Leicester, Burnley and Swansea all at home and hope for a minimum of a draw at the likes of Watford, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Palace. I agree with you SM, 5 wins and 3 draws and somewhere in those fixtures there's enough left to get them.

But again as you've said, 3 wins in the last 24 is truly shocking and add to that, most of those opponents who are down there with us will be targeting our fixture as a must win as well. We're 4 points adrift already and for the last few weeks, us, Huddersfield and Stoke are the ones who look incapable of winning a couple at the moment.

If Chelsea is treated like the Man City game, resting players, not risking players and parking the bus, we will in all probability be going into the Huddersfield game at least 4 points from safety with a -20 goal difference.

I still have hope, but most of it is probably blind hope, Albion have a habit of letting me down Sad

I think we will stay up but it will be tough. There is as many as 11 teams who can go down and some of those teams are on bad runs and are performing badly. Our recent form until yesterday has been fairly good so we can pick up the points that we need if the team performs and we can have some luck.

It's only over when it's mathematically impossible to stay up. Until that happens I will continue to believe we will stay up.

I think we may drop but I'm holding out on voting just yet ..
Why ?
I hoping after the Chelsea game we will have most of our players back and a fully fit Sturridge,
It sounds daft because if the above is true, the games from Huddersfield down to Swansea are all winnable,
I know it wont happen but Leicester did this a few years ago a few wins form the above will make all the difference,
But I have been saying that since November Sad

Blimey 4eva, I wish I could be as positive as you Thumb up those are some set of results to finish the season, and what's so special about Burnley Whistle

I will be looking out for your predictions if Beefy uses the Albion games for the league Tongue

Bomber, not predictions, what I feel the best 11 are capable of .... Burnley away is always tricky their good at home and doing quite well currently. And as for my predictions .... look to the prediction league ... ouch .... six weeks since a positive return and yesterday does not rate a mention.

Bomber more to the above, only gone for two wins away, hope more than belief with all other ten games.

I hope you stay up but i have a feeling you could go down. I'm not a fan of pardew at all and felt he was the wrong choice.
