Alex Whitmore - Devongone - 18-01-2018 We have signed Burnley defender Alex Whitmore on a free transfer on a two-and-a-half-year deal. The 22-year-old made 11 appearances on loan at Bury earlier this season and has had spells with Morecambe, Chester and Gateshead. Looks ginger ..... The curmudgeon in me notes he is only 1.85m tall. Taking into account Maguire isn't that big for a centre back and Nelson's height might over-stated too ......... didn't we need a taller option? The good thing is Alex's ours now, he's not a loan and he's part of our future which starts at Yeovil ...... who hopefully might be thinking their future starts against Manchester United. (And considering where our ground is Whitmore is fairly appropriate.) RE: Alex Whitmore - spireitematt - 18-01-2018 Sounds like he could be a decent player. Also got experience in this league after having loan spells at Morecambe. RE: Alex Whitmore - Devongone - 18-01-2018 Apparently he got 43 games for Morecambe. Bury fans don't have a high opinion of him, but I doubt that has been a great environment for a young-ish player this season. Someone offers the view they think he's National League player in the making ........ and I wondered what do they know about it? Do they even watch National League games, and why disregard his 43 games for Morecambe? At the very least he's quite durable. RE: Alex Whitmore - bluepooch - 19-01-2018 It seems Morecambe fans rated him and Bury fans didnt .Probably to do with the relevant leagues and the playing style. This brings me to the subject of how fans from different clubs see players in different lights,an example from a few years ago was David Reeves, ridiculed by Preston fans, yet revered at town as a legend. |
