Rodney Fern Died - Light the Blue Touch Paper - Devongone - 17-01-2018 Rodney died today. For any too young to remember him Rodney Fern on a good day was a wonderful, joyful footballer. He took opponents on for fun and left them bamboozled in his wake as he skipped away. I watched him take The Owls apart. They still had the aura of a very big club then and winning at all would have meant a lot to us, but Rodney simply shredded their defence, time after time. Only conceding three flattered them that day. I'm not being anti-Owl in recalling it, I'm being pro-Rodney Fern. That day there was no way to stop him ....... and that was what Rodney had, the ability occasionally to click into a totally different gear. I'm sure he couldn't control when it happened, but when he was going it was light the blue touch paper and retire. RE: Rodney Fern Died - Light the Blue Touch Paper - bluepooch - 17-01-2018 He played during my early years watching town but was one of my favourite town players ever ,always looked knackered but fantastic ability and knew where the net was .Im not sure if he was part of the Arthur Cox era or just before but I remember him getting 4 in a game that we won 7-1 or 7-0. Against Bury I think. He was a good player for Leicester too, but he wasn't Mr Consistency. |
