What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - 0762 - 18-12-2017 It strikes me that although Celtic's surprise 'embarrassment' at Tynecastle, at the hands of a pretty average Hearts team, that recently had the likes of the journo, Tom English, uttering the word 'boring' after watching another uninspiring 0-0 draw on a very cold day in Gorgie, Rodgers will most certainly use this defeat as a 'motivator' for his troops to 'push on'. This Hoops' manager is an excellent one and learning from such a minor setback will be paramount in his future thinking! There are 'bigger fish to fry' and it would not surprise if Celtic don't lose another game as Rodgers 'learns' from today's performances by certain players in his squad. He will certainly 'change things' to 'freshen up his team' during a period when many of us could see that too many games were 'catching up with them' and it was possible that some 'lucky opponent' was gonna play them at their most vulnerable collectively during the December period and it happened. It would also not surprise me if Rodgers delves into the January transfer market and 'tweaks' his player squad to suit his future strategy in 2018. It will be interesting to see how he 'goes about his business' but I'm sure it will be effective. RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - St Charles Owl - 18-12-2017 Do you see him still being at Celtic next season? While he can certainly stay there and write himself into the record books, you have to wonder if what he is achieving this season and last is simply the most he ever will at Celtic!! Is there anything further that they’re likely to achieve under him aside from more of the same? While I can’t see any of the top 6 prem teams coming in for him, you would think he would be near the top of the list for any prem teams that need a new manager in the summer, and you can bet they will come with both a huge increase in salary and a huge transfer budget by comparison to what he will get at Celtic. RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - hibeejim21 - 18-12-2017 The way celtic play leaves their centre backs too exposed, most times in scotland they will get away with it though because they won't press them like hertz did. Mainly because doing that usually leaves a gap behind your backs that their wingers would exploit. None of their team played well enough to make that happen though. This was a meltdown game for them where everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. It will be interesting to see how they react in the games up to the window. I can't see rodgers leaving celtic next season. You never know i suppose but his body language after the game suggested he is in it for the 'long haul'. RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - 0762 - 18-12-2017 Yep, I agree. I don't believe Rodgers will leave Celtic and I base that view on a previous tv interview where he did say that he was truly enjoying himself at Cetic Park and was 'in it for the long haul'. I think one of Rodgers main targets is to improve in Euro footie and progress into KO stages. I can only see him attaining that goal in the Europa League but they won't win it - too many good quality teams. However, they are the only Scot footie club that has any real prospect of doing something rather than just 'making up the numbers'! The one thing Celtic will give him is a tilt at the Champions League and then possibly the Europa League each season, outside the top 6 in England there are no clubs that can do that. Of course that won't stop them from trying!! RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - 1Wattie - 18-12-2017 To most of us who follow our Scottish teams progress in Europe it is blatantly obvious that Celtic need to move up a level to be competitive. This can only be done by buying better quality players and that should provide the impetus to become a top 16 team almost every season. Celtic fans go on about the amount of cash flowing in from Champions League/Europa League appearances but they seem contented being humbled by facing crushing defeats every year. RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - 0762 - 19-12-2017 The 'buck' ultimately stops at Peter (I love myself) Lawwell's doorstep and he does indeed appear to be happy to see the Hoops 'hovering around' Champions League participation and being thrashed now and again but picking up a fortune that other Scottish footie clubs can only dream about! RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - 0762 - 19-12-2017 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_Compper Rodgers already moving in on an experienced centre half - Leipzig's Marvin Compper being signed up and it would not surprise me if he moves for another defensive half back. Definitely 'changes afoot' and Rodgers unsurprisingly 'not sitting on his hands' and probably looking towards Celtic's Europa League campaign next year. RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - hibeejim21 - 19-12-2017 Looks a decent player. RE: What is the next move for Rodgers after that surprise implosion at Tynecastle??? - 0762 - 19-12-2017 Yep! He has one international cap for Germany and good Champions League experience. Also he is reckoned to be a good 'reader' of the game, an astute defender! |
