A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - bluepooch - 26-11-2017 First half they just about edged it due to a decent 20 minute spell just after we scored .After the break it was an unbelieveable performance ,we passed them off the park and battered them .Our movement going forward had them spinning ,time and again we carved them open only for the final decision to let us down .Young Joe is a fantastic talent but he just needs to know when to release the ball . Once again though we conceded 2 goals for the 5th time under Jack and I cannot put my finger on where specifically we are going wrong in this area,Anyon wasnt at fault for the goals but he still gives me no confidence ,again he hardly had anything to do except pick the ball out the net and a goalie must be the priority for Jack in January As for our manager ,I hope the owner realises what a gem we have on our hands and we try and tie him down to a big contract. He could be better than Cookie . His interviews are so self assured and it looks like he knows exactly what he wants and his vision is being borne out by the performances. The good times are here lets enjoy the ride ! RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - Dancingwilldoit - 26-11-2017 Didn't go yesterday but watching the highlights, the second goal was similar to FGR's second on Tuesday. Anyon should be going for those kind of balls. Yesterdays cross was a good one but Anyon should have done better with his positioning. Barnet will be a massive game for us, 3 points and we could be up and away, who would have thought that 6 weeks ago. RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - Devongone - 26-11-2017 Of course there are things not to like - conceding yet again in the last few minutes, conceding two anyway, letting a centre back score the equalizer, dominating and not getting the points it sounds as though we deserved. But I'd have considered 8 points from our last 4 games, which weren't easy, an impossibility a few weeks ago. I look at the team we are fielding now and can't help thinking we are massively over-achieving. It is great credit to Jack Lester and the players who are transforming themselves from odd-bits and benchers into a team. I like the fact that players other than Dennis and McCourt are beginning to get on the scoresheet. I'm pleased I'm thinking we now don't want to feel we are a bit too big for our boots and go out against Barnet thinking we'll Barcelona them all over the field. We're bottom of the whole league, but at least the rest of the division are in sight now RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - bluepooch - 26-11-2017 I like your positivity boys .! I cant help but think that Jack wont improve this bunch defensively until we recruit, but I do think he is instilling a never say die attitude which says however many the opposition score we will match or beat it .Its like all our Christmases have come at once ,after they equalised first time we would have probably gone on to lose under Saunders,Wilson or Caldwell, thats the difference . We have a manager who has an easy on the eye, entertaining style matched with this resilience ,which is very rare .All that remains to be seen now is Jacks ability to recruit well and have an eye for a player .If he does this the world will be his oyster. RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - spireitematt - 26-11-2017 Saw the highlights. Their first goal we gave the ball away too cheaply after winning it back and they broke through our defence and scored. Their second I don't think any keeper would have saved that but we could have prevented it by closing down the player who put the cross in. I'm happy with a point though. RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - Devongone - 27-11-2017 I still think Dancing's idea of Hird as a very defensive midfielder playing just in front of the back four would improve matters ......... and the guy really does pass well which suggests he wouldn't disrupt our own midfield. I really did think the best ANY manager could do for us was not to get any further behind until the transfer window and then maybe recruit a miracle. I wanted Jack Lester as manager because I wanted someone for the long-term - Dancing was opposed, not because he didn't rate Jack, but because he wanted someone with a track record of saving teams from relegation which was simply a different way of looking at the problem. I still look at our team and am amazed to be considering our chances of beating rivals like Barnet and Stevenage. These last few months victory had become something accidentally and very occasionally achieved, which none (or very few) of us felt likely to be repeated. Somehow Jack has got the team to put itself into games. Now he's got to make sure they can repeat the trick to the end of the season AND he has the task of recruiting well whilst making sure his current players maintain their improvement. It isn't easy, and I still think we've got a bigger ask than anybody else in the division, but I didn't switch on teletext on Saturday lunchtime from behind the sofa. By the way, I like the fact young Joe carries the ball too far sometimes. It shows he believes in himself. Really good youngsters almost always do it. As for Anyon, you've hit the nail on the head - he doesn't inspire confidence and that is a problem that is very difficult to do anything about. If you carry your past mistakes with you it's pretty damned certain the defenders in front of you will be doing it too. RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - bluepooch - 27-11-2017 If we lose to Barnet I will personally run down my street with our lass's pants on . You really need to stop saying these things because one day you'll have to do it. RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - Dancingwilldoit - 27-11-2017 Oh No not again. I actually fancied us against Barnet. You've just put the kiss of death on it Blue. RE: A Few Thoughts on Yesterday - Devongone - 28-11-2017 I don't get it. What's the big deal? Surely everyone's used to seeing you in your lasses pants? At least that's what we heard. |
