So Rodgers' Celtic team finally surpasses that past Celtic achievement of 1915-17 with a thumping 0-4 victory over Saint Johnstone in Perth and that is after a very strenuous Champions League tie v Bayern Munich! The question to ask now is, 'When will they be beaten'? and, 'Could they progress through a second domestic season unbeaten'? Intriguing eh!

very proud of this
Its a good time to be a tim
between blessed st Brendans on field performance to Pistol Pete making us financially secure and dominant, through to laughing at the poor sevconianas and there pathetic display on Saturday.
And thst before we laugh at the loss making company with no line of credit and NO way of making the euro FFP

ahhhh bless

I think it`s unfortunate that Celtic chose not to wear a poppy on their shirt as a mark of respect for the fallen in both world wars. That is not a dig at Celtic or the supporters, they have their own reasons for it.
As far as the exceptional record set up is concerned people should sit back and give credit to the team and management. This run of unbeaten domestic games will go on for the rest of the season at least because there`s no team getting close to the level that Celtic are on.
There may be a possibility on a bad day that Celtic could lose a game but a second treble seems like a foregone conclusion.
If the board loosen the purse strings and give Brendon Rogers a decent transfer budget qualifying for the last 16 in the Champions League is well within the current team`s capabilities.

wattie,

As soon as the poppy became a symbol of the current armed forces as well as remembrance for those that died in the wars it was always going to become politicised. I agree they should wear the poppy on their shirts but i understand why they don't. I notice they make a 10k donation every year to the poppy charity and ultimately thats the most important thing at the end of the day.

I think they will lose a game eventually, probably around the european ties. Its nearly happened already with st johnstone and hibs.

The problem these days is that everything gets politicized. I have no problem wearing a poppy to remember every military person who has served and paid the ultimate price no matter what the conflict was. The way we politicize wars based on their validity or based on the politicians that made the decisions to go to war or get involved in conflict is not the fault of those armed forces that fought and died, I wear the poppy for them, not the politicians!!!

Thats your right of course - but its also the right of those who don't agree with 'no matter what the conflict was' to hold an opposite view. I don't feel comfortable about equating conflicts in iraq or northern ireland with the great war and the 2nd world war.

Did you know that approx a fifth of Scots don't wear the red poppy for various critical reasons. I don't wear a poppy any more for a number of reasons incl the bullying (and sacking in some cases!!) of people for not displaying a red poppy but I still respect Armistice Day and I spare a thought for past relatives who lost their lives fighting against the worst forms of n####m and fascism and one family member disabled due to battle injury! Also good to see many people wearing the white 'peace poppy' and some symbolically altering the red poppy with yellow vertical stripes in support of the Catalans (although IMO it is not quite an apolitical move TBH and contrary to the proper use formally set out by the British Legion) in the face of ludicrous fascist action against them in Spain - will we never learn the lessons from our past history eh!!??

2 minute silence in M&S, nothing says dignity more than honouring our war dead in the dairy section of your local food hall.

I haven’t worn a poppy for 30 years, I’m not at all offended by someone not wearing it at all. I do think the Catalan version you refer to is inappropriate though, and a clear case of politicizing the poppy!! No one has died nor had to go into battle with regards to Catalan, the poppy is to remember those who have fallen in battle, not to fight for a cause that doesn’t even involve a war!!

" the poppy is to remember those who have fallen in battle, not to fight for a cause that doesn’t even involve a war!! "

Buts its ok to use it to honour illegal wars.

Sometimes I wonder how previous generations managed without the poppy. In my humble opinion, war and the military is now such a big part of the UKs economy that the government have to conflate all conflicts with the poppy now. Its good business.

Its miles away from what it was originally meant to represent. Miles. Charities like Erskine and Poppy Scotland actually do a lot of great work and I always try and support them, but there is a rebranding process going on now that the world war 2 veterans are dying off and its using an overt nationalism I find a bit troubling.
