I know it's Halloween but spooky .... - 4evaabaggie - 29-10-2017

After ten games this season we have the exact same record as last year, won 2 drawn 4 lost 4 10 points 15th place ....... the only difference we have scored one less and spookily conceded one less also ........ so same goal difference ...

That may be spooky, but its scary that all of our new and improved players have not made the slightest bit of difference.

I am surprised that in my dotage my interest in football seems to be waning. I played it in the street when all we had was a leather case stuffed with newspaper; I played it endlessly on summer days that seemed to last for ever; I played for the village, the regiment, and turned out at the drop of a hat simply because playing football was always a joy even in the rain and snow. When I couldn’t play – I watched. TV bought precious viewing of great exponents and the games were exciting. Nowadays people pontificate about managers, owners, transfer deadlines, huge wages, contracts, etc,etc all of which is frankly boring and has very little to do with the original reason to be interested in football in the first place – love of the actual game itself. I want something we will never have again – the thrill of lining up against a team knowing that The Albion will go out there with the intention of trying to win the game above all other considerations. Hanging on for mid table survival isn’t an ambition; it isn’t even a worthy strategy. We need the people with money and influence to get back to the simple, beautiful game.

Well said meandbren I couldn't agree more.

I don't watch Premier league football now as we all know which teams are going to win the silverware even before a ball is kicked on the first day of the season.

It's no longer the peoples game it belongs to the moneymen and they couldn't care less about the state of the game as long as they are making money.

I now watch Cheltenham for my love for the game is still there....................just.

Even at that level all the dirty tricks of fouling, holding, tripping and simulation are to be seen.

I watched with pleasure the success of England's U17 team as they beat Brazil and France to win their version of the World Cup.

With the under 20's doing so well earlier in the year, the game in England should be full of promise in the years to come.

Sadly, to close on a sour note...let's hope that the Pulis's of this world don't coach it all out of them before they are old enough to play for the senior team.

Great words, Youandbren.
I feel exactly the same.....but I'd add: if WB Albion changed from a Football Club to a team of Morris Dancers I'd still have to go and watch them. (I'm wondering if a psychiatrist could help us all out).

Silver, well said, I have moved from the south east to Shropshire, I could be tempted to watch Telford although my love of Albion far out weighs my love of modern football, when football was a level playing field I watched any game now I only watch Albion and England. The U17's beat Brazil in the semi-finals and came back from two down to beat Spain in the final .... how great was that, but what little coverage it got in the media before hand. I did not realize it was taking place.
I saw a bit of a Sunday pub league this weekend, it was liking watching us ...... ball in the air, boot out of defence, mis-controlled balls, passes going astray not reaching their targets etc etc
