Would it be an idea. - Baggiebob(BBB) - 07-10-2017

Being as no one - well not  many, care about the National game week-ends, would it be an idea that teams having less than 3 internationals playing, play on Saturday's, as this would give the youngsters a shot at playing.

There might not be many Premership teams in this group, but there'd be Championship.

Any thoughts?

Well that was a waste of time - obviously no one has any thoughts either way. Big Grin

BBB, the trouble with this idea is some of the championship, even if it's a quarter, would be affected, their rivals would spread their games out across more weeks the rest would get a fixture backlog and therefore be disadvantaged in the race for the greed league ...... it has too be the same rules for everyone in the league ..... a level playing field.

What the Championship could do is continue like normal during the International breaks. This will mean a less overcrowded football calendar where teams will play three games per week for a good portion of the season.

That would mean following what Spain does. During International breaks, La Liga teams don't play (like the Premiership doesn't) but the second division as well as the lower divisions continue like normal. The Segunda División (Second division) in Spain has 22 teams in the league (2 less than the Championship) but by continuing to play during the International break, they only have to play a couple of mid-week matches per season whilst the season runs for a little longer. It usually finishes in mid to late July.

Josh, does the Spanish first division have as many foreign players as the premier league, does their second division pay the same kind of money as the championship thereby attracting as many lower level internationals ...... Would their teams be as disadvantaged as second tier English teams ........ not a criticism just a question .... I don't know the answer.
We have played, including today, four international games ..... could they not be played in July and may just before and after domestic seasons start?

Not going to happen. There are too many international players in the Championship, I think we have 6 players on international duty and 4 of them are key to our team, so there is no way we would want to play a game without them.

Think of the poor darlings with no Summer holiday, though Eva. All those £millions and no time to spend it. My heart bleeds.

The answer to your questions are that Spain doesn't have as many foreign players, the money is nowhere near the Championship because of Spain's bullshit rule of giving most of the prize money to the top teams (then the Spanish football association wonder why so many teams have money troubles and why La Liga has become a boring shambles and finally the Championship would probably be affected more because as St Charles said they have more International players who would be away. It was only an idea as a way of keeping the top English leagues (minus the Premiership) going during the International breaks but it probably wouldn't work for a lot of the teams in the division.

As for changes being made to International breaks I have found this article online - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/41531244

I did say teams that hadn't any more than 3 players asked to represent their country. Even League 1 could have a player as a Championship team.

(Maybe if we stopped all foreign players from playing for their countries, we'd have less, and more English players - just saying)  Wink Whistle

St Charles that was what i thought too many internationals in the championship meaning the bigger teams would be disadvantaged .......

Josh again just as I thought we have more foreign players and more internationals playing further down our pyramid meaning they are required by both club and country to allow the league to continue .....

BBB, teams like the big Yorkshire clubs, the dingles, the vile would be disadvantaged as they would have a fixture backlog when teams like Burton Albion would have an easier run across the coarse of the season. Not to fussed about the dingles and the vile but I am about fair play.
