Don't take it. If you do, bring your boots.

RE: Message to Jack Lester - Dancingwilldoit - 27-09-2017

Last night was my last game for 3 weeks and can honestly say I wont be missing going. First half we were dire and I mean dire. Yeovil were like an express train and just ripped through us time after time after time. We should have been 4 or 5 down by half time. Anyon will never be a keeper, he needs a career change and fast. Tommy sat on the bench with a "keeper" flapping at crosses, punching when he should catch and generally like a limpet on his line. I just don't get it. Our top scorer on the bench and the god awful mighty Cogba up top with Ugwu. Give Ugwu credit, he battled, just a pity CoG didn't show the same desire, nearest he got was a header at least 20' off target. Brewster on the same bench didn't get a sniff.
To put our tactics into perspective, Yeovil played Nate Smith as a centre back. Now call me an optimist but when I saw them line up I thought get some crosses in and we will score a bag full. Problem was we just didn't. Everything was down the centre, pass pass pass pass give it away, time after time after time. The only cross was when Ugwu got behind them when he should have been in the middle putting Smith under pressure.
This really could be a poisoned chalice for Lester, I just hope he knows what he is doing. Dave Allen and Ashley Carson certainly do.

RE: Message to Jack Lester - Devongone - 27-09-2017

Smith plays centre back a lot for Yeovil. He might revert to full back now they have the giant Sowumni back to fitness. Smith's a good player.

I have kept trying to warn poor old Pooch, a genuine Chesterfield man through and through, that we are no more than a poisoned chalice. Unfortunately for Jack he can't throw the dregs away. Jules being injured is dire news as Maguire is more a potential replacement for Hird than him ........... but then I'd play Evatt and Maguire and Hird just in front of them. It's not as though we'd lose out on any genius midfield creativity is it?

I cannot but agree that Tommy Lee is at least a broken arm ahead of Joe Anyon in goal. Anyon is really an Evo-Stick keeper, at our level he can warm a bench and he might come on the odd time and be decent if we were lucky. I think we should be looking at ways to be rid of him, but I don't think we'll get a mutual consent till the end of the season and we are in the Vanarama.

And yes it worries me that COG has had more loans than clubs and is our biggest earner apparently by a mile, that he doesn't tend to score a goal and isn't giving any signals that he could be the basis of a vibrant attack.

But I've been saying all along you should reading the Non League Paper. If the news is really that Jack is coming my opinion is we should give him two years at least WHETHER WE GO TO THE VANARAMA OR NOT because he is taking over a shambles in September and has to largely live with it until January

Looking at non-league I'm amazed how poor league recruitment still is despite the Jamie Vardy effect. How long ago was it, two, three years I suggested Arthur Gnahoua at Kidderminster was really a league player. Finally Shrewsbury signed him in the summer. Last night they finally got him off the bench with two minutes to go at Donny, plenty of time for him to stroll through the defence and grab the winner ......... You only have to look at the backgrounds of some of the players who get good write ups most weeks in Steps One, Two and even lower to see that their talent has been briefly recognised by league clubs but then for various reasons they ended up where they are. You don't necessarily have to pay a big wage to get a Brighton extra, you just have to be sharp and prepared to give someone a run at a higher level, just as you would (or would not in our case) with one of the promising youngsters in your squad.

Have a good holiday Dancing. Keep in touch. Lounging on a costa is it?

RE: Message to Jack Lester - Dancingwilldoit - 27-09-2017

Its been a long hard year Dev.
Arrive in Catalunya the day after the "Vote", should be interesting. Ferry Saturday and a nice leisurely drive down with a couple of stops.

There was a rumour last night that Lester was in the away end. I hope to god he was because he could at least see he will need to make some changes for Saturday.

Whats really puzzling is why nobody other than Wilson has played Hird in front of a back 4. It worked, and as our midfield is like butter it seems so obvious. Get Evatt and Maguire in the middle with Dimaio and Gironimo with a good passer and go 4-1-3-2. Wiseman and Briggs seem to like getting forward. Try Brewster and Dennis up top. It couldn't be any worse than last night.

RE: Message to Jack Lester - Devongone - 27-09-2017

No it really couldn't. The game might get a bit of a feature on Spotlight news down here as they won't want to show Exeter and Plymouth.

I've seen Hird try to play as a PROPER more-forward midfielder and he was hopeless, because he couldn't really run about very well and didn't particularly like receiving the ball with his back to players - BUT we need a limited role from him, not much more running than at centre back. He can read the game and he can pass, so when he wins tackles it won't be a problem having him on the ball. And he'll be useful on high balls too. The worst thing is that he'd need proper midfielders to lay the ball off to ........ and we've got what we've got. But yes certainly Dimaio is a better bet than our current starters.

Yes Lester was in the away end last night with another guy who could be his assistant manager but no one knows who and apparently that the appointment will be announced tomorrow.

Have a good holiday Dancing.

I may go to the match on Saturday or might go watch Buxton in the FA Cup against a village side.

RE: Message to Jack Lester - Dancingwilldoit - 27-09-2017

Buxton will be a better bet Matt.

"Andy Giddings‏ @Gids1980 Not expecting an official announcement from #chesterfieldfc tomorrow re Jack Lester's appointment. 1/2 10:34 PM - 27 Sep 2017"

Why can't they just announce that Jack is the manager?

RE: Message to Jack Lester - bluepooch - 28-09-2017

its a two part tweet.the second part says something about sorting out deals for the staff hes bringing .cant believe people dont want him to come for his own good .why ? are you his relative Dancing ? wtf is that all about that you put a persons reputation above your own clubs best interest. You must really hate your club .
Hird was terrible last night and he has beem tried in front of the defence numerous times including under Cook and he was ineffective then too .
I clapped them off last night mainly because of the undoubted effort they put in especially second half.

RE: Message to Jack Lester - Devongone - 28-09-2017

Pooch, you are the truest-hearted of supporters, but you read Dancing absolutely wrong. He doesn't hate the club, or the team; he hates what is being done to them and/or happening to them. In the current circumstances it is hard to know where incompetence ends and malign intent begins. We are all left guessing at the motives of a successful man who builds us a stadium, has the club in his debt and the palm of his hand and then walks away but doesn't leave ....... and we are left with this brooding presence, failure on the field breeding only further failure and supporters who would protest, but aren't quite sure on what that protest should be pinned. Dancing rates Jack Lester. He knows we gave GC a very difficult job and, like me, he's sure any new manager now is gambling his career on his own personality and charisma being enough to draw this strange squad of players together. There's very little opportunity to change the squad until January and it is still September. We could be virtually down by that time. Dancing fears that; almost all of us do.

Hird did play the role we want for Danny Wilson - briefly. Under Cook he played further forward. We want a third centre back essentially in front of our centre backs. He's a sweeper behind the midfield, or slightly in front of the defensive line. We don't want him to run about. We want him to scent danger, picks up loose ends, intercept ...... and when he's got the ball yes use it as he actually can. Give him videos of Ledley King playing for England - do that Sam ....... but we don't mind if you cut down on the carrying ball forward bit!

Are you surprised Hird was rubbish against Yeovil? He was ready to play alongside a guy of 6'4" he was just getting used to, a few minutes in he gets a younger, smaller partner who plays a different game - actually a game similar to his own. Okay he should have adapted, but once a game starts to run away from you sometimes you can't stop being crap. If you don't want Hird to try the role I'd like to see, the only other choice on our books is Wiseman. By inaction in the transfer market we've created our own problems at centre back. Hird and Evatt as a combo is too often found out, Hird and Maguire maybe wasn't great against Yeovil, that leaves Evatt and Maguire or using Wiseman or Hird in some kind of role. Dancing and I are just choosing one that we think might make the defence more secure and help our full backs and midfield to provide more and better attacking opportunities.

The oddest thing about all this to me is Dave Allen is getting himself hated as he was at Sheffield Wednesday. He should be loved. He has every opportunity to be loved. He can afford to be loved. He is choosing our hatred. Why does anyone want to be hated, when being loved would have been so easy?
