So Diego signs - bluepooch - 30-08-2017

How strange considering GC was apparently not interested last week.
I am totally open minded about this as I never judge a player until I have seen him with my own eyes .
Scored a hat trick last night so at least is in form ,would have preferred a keeper .

Knowing Caldwell that's where he will play him.

Was it two or three seasons ago I first wanted us to make a play for Diego on loan, certainly it was before his injury. Then top Italian clubs were chasing him, there were several clips of actual brilliance from him in youth games available on the internet, and he was ready to make the jump then, but the Blades would only give him the bench at best .........

Since then he's been seriously injured, had loans of dubious value - a few goals at York, a hat trick at Cheltenham - he's moved to Bristol City after we offered him a trial. He's not made the first team, he's apparently had the odd brilliant game at U-23 level ........ He WAS far too good for us, now we wonder if he's good enough. Hope so! More than!

There was a very interesting interview with Brundle, Dover's captain, in the non-league paper. He's another youngish player we should at the very least be tracking. Bristol was one of the clubs at which he didn't make it. He says released U-23 players can find it hard to find a club even at National League level, especially if they've had no loan-experience. The years they've spent playing non-competitive games make non-league teams vary wary of them. Young lads who were working, training at night, playing every Saturday in games that matter have learnt things that the U-23's haven't touched. Like many incomers rejected by league-clubs Brundle says he really struggled at first. He thinks getting out on loan in order to play is the answer ...........

Personally I'm sure there's a point at which a young player is absolutely ready. You'd think holding him back wouldn't be a problem, that he'd just improve some more. But I'm convinced many do go in the opposite direction. That's what I fear has happened and is still happening to our own Ricky German. And I hope stalling on his career hasn't wrecked Diego's high hopes. We could make or break his career, but Chesterfield isn't the place I'd choose at the moment, for either of these talented young players ...... and really it should be.
