Gamboa v Wisdom - drewks - 07-10-2014 ...well, this thread HAD to appear sooner or later! ![]() Great position to be in. I've got to admit that I've not seen much of Wisdom, but for me it's Gamboa (unless he produces a real shocker); He's fast He's strong He's a good tackler He adds so much to the attack/offensive side of things Quick to recover IMO his style can gee up all those around him, team mates AND crowd ......and....HE'S OURS!! ![]() ![]() RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - wba_1996 - 07-10-2014 Not much in it in terms of overall ability, but Gamboa is much more exciting and he's OUR player, starts for me every time. RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - Slick_Footwork - 07-10-2014 Unfortunately I missed the Liverpool game this week, so didn't actually get to see how Gamboa played. I guess that will be the deal breaker if he keeps his spot. However, from what I saw at the Hull cup game, Gamboa actually didn't get forward as much as Wisdom has been. In the home games especially I've been really impressed with how Wisdom has contributed to the attacks by getting to the byline on a regular basis. For someone who is supposed to be a natural centre half, the lad really gets forward and is as good as anyone in the side at keeping the ball. My gut instinct is that there isn't a lot between the 2. It would make sense for Gamboa to be #1, as he is our player, but given that my first impression of AL is that he sets his teams up not to lose, I think Wisdom's extra height could well be a defining factor because of defending set plays. That just about sums it up for me,exciting going forward, but some one needs to cover for him when he bombs forward. RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - Worldclassalbion - 07-10-2014 Gamboa RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - DanTheSmethwickMan - 07-10-2014 Wisdom RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - HarryJAllstarWBA - 07-10-2014 Wisdoms a better defender, Gamboa better forward RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - WillieJohnstonsGreenhouse - 07-10-2014 Gamboa is frighteningly quick. Looks like an out and out winger to me but he don't half like a tackle - a legend in the making. (maybe JOSH can enlighten us as to his best position?) Don't mind Wisdom - but not doing it for me (just my opinion, don't kill me) Just happy to have decent competition after last season's fright-fest. RE: Gamboa v Wisdom - WBA-Josh - 08-10-2014 It depends on what you want in a full back. Gamboa is my preferred choice because I like attacking full backs who give the team an extra option in attack whilst also being able to defend well. To answer Willie's question, Gamboa's main position is as a right back. For club that is what he has always been. For Costa Rica, he has been used as a right back and as a right wing back. This is because the current coach and previous coach like/liked to change between a normal back 4 and a back 3 with wing backs depending on the match opponents, match importance, available players etc. |
