Managers Win Ratio - spireitematt - 23-12-2016 So I was interested to know what win ratio's past managers have had and I know I don't have all of them as you can't find them all. 1967 - 1973 - Jimmy McGuigan G305 W124 D76 L105 Win Ratio 40.66% 1973 - 1976 - Joe Shaw G143 W54 D36 L53 Win Ratio 36.87% 1976 - 1980 - Arthur Cox G206 W77 D53 L76 Win Ratio 37.38% 1987 - 1988 - Kevin Randall G62 W18 D12 L32 Win Ratio 29.03% 1988 - 1991 - Paul Hart G111 W38 D30 L43 Win Ratio 34.02% 2003 - 2007 - Roy McFarland G194 W54 D58 L82 Win Ratio 27.83% 2009 - 2012 - John Sheridan G160 W63 D38 L59 Win Ratio 39.38% 2012 - 2015 - Paul Cook G145 W65 D36 L44 Win Ratio 44.83% 2015 - 2015 - Dean Saunders G23 W8 D2 L13 Win Ratio 34.78% 2016 - Danny Wilson G52 W18 D9 L25 Win Ratio 34.62% Looking at that Paul Cook, John Sheridan, Arthur Cox and Jimmy McGuigan have got good win ratio's. Kevin Randall and Roy McFarland don't have the best win ratio and so far not much separating Dean Saunders and Danny Wilson. RE: Managers Win Ratio - Devongone - 27-12-2016 Paul Cook - 30.34% Jim McGuigan - 34.42% John Sheridan - 36.875% Arthur Cox - 36.89% Joe Shaw - 37.06% Paul Hart - 38.74% Roy Mac - 42.27% Danny Wilson - 49.05% Kevin Randall - 51.61% Dean Saunders - 56.52% Now that's percentage of games LOST and I'm thinking it is a clearer comparison, because they didn't all manage under three points for a win ...... There do look to be three real relegation candidates anyway who lose half their games. (If you lose half your games at our level then you have to win 14 and draw 9 to avoid the drop, so if, like Oldham, you've already drawn 9 you're looking at a lot of wins.) Interesting that two of the least successful managers are ex-Chesterfield players who we loved! To be fair you'd have to look at their inheritance and the division/s played in. Deano lost the best half of of Paul Cook's squad before he started and Danny inherited what he left behind (including some misguided contracts) and did not seem to have a lot of additional cash. Arthur Cox spent relatively more than anybody ever in my estimation, SO I think, lacking the mathematical skill to create an algorithm to compare our little market above, I'd have to be well-impressed with McGuigan's ability to transform players who were largely regarded as sow's ears and discards into silk purses. RE: Managers Win Ratio - bluepooch - 27-12-2016 Id like to see a percentage table of games lost by 3 or more goals .Wilson would be top by a mile . RE: Managers Win Ratio - Devongone - 28-12-2016 On the other hand if Danny won us 10 games between now and the end of the season it's unlikely the 3-0s would come into play ...... I still think the most potent wrong decision Danny made was selecting Tommy Lee at Bradford City last season ..... which was compounded by not seeking top medical advice on him immediately. Let's hope Allinson can get himself together to unite the second defence we've had that obviously relied on Tommy. It is also very interesting to look at our bench against Rochdale. It must be the most attacking bench in history. And why? Because every potential first team defender was already out on the pitch in the starting eleven now that Sam Hird's back. Yet despite that apparent defensive pedigree, we do, as Pooch would point out, concede three (quite a lot). I thought before the season started that Tommy's injury was more likely to repeat on us than a plate full of Brussels sprouts and the 10 wins to avoid relegation looks a bar too high whatever we do or don't do managerially. |
