WTF ! - bluepooch - 10-12-2016

Allinson wins us the game against Rochdale and he brings Fulton back in !
I dont care if Liverpool say he has to play ,we play our best keeper available .

RE: WTF ! - Devongone - 10-12-2016

Yeah but to be fair he was at least as successful as last Saturday .........

Signing suggestion - Sarcevic, free agent, mutual cancellation at Shrewsbury, strange boy, good player, only 24 now, not only could we do worse we also have been doing.

From his team selection Danny was clearly trying to learn things from Tuesday, it just seems he chose the wrong ones! If we have been told we have to play Fulton we should just send him back - it would be the most stupid agreement ever entered into (getting the third or fourth choice keeper from the club with the poorest keepers in the Premier, who in addition is Scottish - how many more clues do we need?)

RE: WTF ! - bluepooch - 10-12-2016

By the way I posted my message before the latest thrashing.
Wilson must give the worst half time team talk of any manager ever. The second half invariably seems to be worse than the first .
Id like to ask a question to all those blaming injuries. How come our weakest area is the one where we have no injuries namely the central midfield .

RE: WTF ! - Devongone - 11-12-2016

I think you'd call Angel central midfield. He may never play, but he may be the only one capable.

It does seem odd that an absolutely excellent central midfielder like Danny hasn't built us an excellent midfield. Kinda defies logic. Alex Ferguson always had centre forwards, Allardyce always has centre backs, Bill Shankly always had a tackling midfielder ......

By the way Pooch when I posted my reply to your comment it was immediately after yesterdays's game and at that time your comment read as having been made two hours earlier. NOW your comment is timed at 16.22 and mine at 19.30 when I was watching Strictly! No wonder we're losing, there's some kind of space-time anomaly operating here. If the team is arriving two hours late for every tackle no surprise we always concede 5, we're lucky to get away with that.

Youre right dev it is a bit weird i can hear the twilight zone music in my head.
Id forgotten about Angel hes been out for that long !
Yes but Wilson is not alone in this .I recall Scotch jonny duncan being a prolific striker but his forte was defence defence defence and Roy mac was a central defender but his teams were quite good offensively not so good defensively .

Wilsons selections remind me of the classic morecambe and wise line.'im playing all the right notes just not necessarily in the right order '

Fergie used to be a striker and United always played attacking football. We played attacking football under Sheridan and Cook not so much under Richardson. McFarland did his best with the resources he had. Saunders tactics were shocking and we would resort to long balls and kicking high in the air. We can't afford to sit back and then hit them on the counter attack and then win 1-0 every game its just not possibly but then again Leicester did it last season with only 40% possession. Also why do we always concede goals at set-pieces but hardly ever score off them?

RE: WTF ! - Devongone - 12-12-2016

Some managers do see the game from the position they played. Fergie is my best example. His teams were geared to getting the ball into the penalty area. Look how he transformed Cristiano Ronaldo from a showboating wide man to a top scorer. He also gave Nani, who lacked all Ronaldo's physical attributes, an excellent season by getting him to come inside and threaten goal.

Roy Mac was just a lovely footballer. Centre back suited him physically but I'm not sure he saw the game from there. He was happy wherever he got the ball on the park!

Sheri and Cookie both played and manage the game from midfield I'm sure, so perhaps we've been spoiled. As a player Dean Saunders was good on a ball over the top, so perhaps that's where his use of the long ball is from.

I've always thought that it is the tendency of managers to see the game from where they played it that has led so few keepers to be decent managers in their own right........

I hate to be over-critical of keepers, specially young ones, but conceding goals from dead balls has always meant for me that there is something wrong with the centre-back/keeper combination. As neither trusts the other marking gets neglected and everyone waits to see who is going to take responsibility when the ball comes in. Forwards feed on the hesitancy of defenders.
