Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - 0762 - 06-10-2016 Well it's a wee break from league business for the Hibs and another home game where Lenny must surely impress on our players that it's time to start a real drive with a positive momentum to winning matches and doing it with a bit of style and belief. Saturday is an ideal opportunity v a Buddies' side currently anchored at the bottom of the Championship. They now have a new manager, Jack Ross, and I'd expect the St Mirren players to be trying hard to impress the new man in charge. However, no excuses re this cup tie although I wouldn't lose much sleep if we lost it all the same! I think the captain will be absent with that groin strain v the Tangerines. So Eardley will likely be placed at RB. Therefore our flanking movement on our right wing will be restricted. Stevo will return on our left side. So I reckon that's where a lotta our attacking activities will be focused. The normal CB pairing will be reinstated and it's a case of what attacking mid and front options the manager will choose for this particular match. Brian Graham in from the start to replace a misfiring Jason Cummings and see what he can do during a full 90 mins? Encourage certain mid players to attack their pen box more positively and start 'sniffing for goals' - an activity that we are not fulfilling enough! Will Lenny give some of our younger players the experience in this kinda match? It will be interesting to see what he does for this game. Adult tickets reasonably priced at £12/£10. So I'd expect a decent crowd to show up for this confrontation. GGTTH RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - HerefordBull - 07-10-2016 Normally in the context and aims for the season this game and Irn Brew Cup would be of little importance. However after the last 3 league games I feel it has come along at the right time......a good performance and it will help to restore any faltering confidence and another game for Lenny to try and find the right formula for the side. 'mon Hibs GGTTH RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - hibeejim21 - 07-10-2016 I cannae be arsed with this joke tournament, leave it to the huns to slaver over it's relevance. let the squad players and the kids use it as a chance to get gametime. RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - 0762 - 07-10-2016 I think many Hibs fans kinda share that view and that's based on the poor ticket sales so far - it looks like the players will be playing in the equivalent of an echo chamber. IMO most fans more interested in the Scotland match v Lithuania although that game will be staged in the evening. I'll try to attend this match just to watch a game and esp if the weather is quite reasonable as forecast. RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - ritchiebaby - 08-10-2016 STARTING XI | Marciano, Gray, McGregor, Forster, Hanlon, Fyvie, McGeouch, Shinnie, Boyle, Harris, Keatings. SUBS | Laidlaw, Stevenson, Eardley, Bartley, Holt, Graham, Cummings. RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - 0762 - 08-10-2016 http://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/news/6873 FT and beaten 1-2 by an awful Saint Mirren side in a game that was effectively played as a 'bounce match'. What a terrible game to watch TBH. Lennon, like Stubbs previously, tried Keatings playing alongside Boyle and it didn't work!! He played Hanlon at LB and I'm assuming he decided to ignore Hibs promising young full back, Crane, to give some kinda game time to an experienced player! ![]() There's no doubt in the next game at Stark's Pk MGinn will return from Scotland duties, Stevo will be returned at LB, Forster will be ditched, Hanlon will return to his normal CB position alongside McGregor or Fontaine and Cummings will be reinstated after being rested for most of this 'bounce match'. That's Lennon's little experiments over!!! RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - hibeejim21 - 09-10-2016 The game at starks park has suddenly taken on real significance. Lennon has to get this sorted. RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - HerefordBull - 09-10-2016 Confidence must be dwindling at present. Unfortunately the side you come up with at the end of your post 0762 is the one that has just lost one and drawn two in the league. It needs a different method of play as at present we are playing exactly the same as Stubbs's side and we know how that turned out in the league. Agree with you about Crane.....I have seen the lad twice and he impressed me so yesterday was an ideal time to try him and see if he can take over from Stevenson. Obviously ranting at them isn't working Lenny so try a different approach and sort it.....especially against most of the teams in this league that come to park the bus and then wait to catch us on the break or from a set piece. GGTTH RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - hibeejim21 - 09-10-2016 Been crying out for a bit more pace to our game so i can see why keatings, boyle and harris started and suggests lennon is trying to sort it. A number of these players didn't do the biz in the league last season either though. RE: Challenge Cup 4th round: Hibs v St Mirren, Sat 8 Oct, KO 3pm - HerefordBull - 09-10-2016 They started but from what I have read about the game they didn't play particularly wide.......this is where you need the pace firstly ..... from your wingers..... so I would have had Harris and Boyle hugging the touchlines . Oh well, back to the diamond and have Gray and Stevenson getting forward ......sounds familiar.....look out for Rudi! ![]() |
