WBA vs Middlesbrough - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 25-08-2016 ![]() A spot of ballet at the Hawthorns as Cyrille Regis makes his league debut against Middlesbrough, 3rd September 1977 The temptation to simply repost my first match thread of the season is overwhelming. A fortnight down the line, after persisting with the same tactics as last season and failing to add new faces (with the exception of loanee Brendan Galloway), we remain a weaker side than we were in May, a fact underlined by yet another home defeat and a League Cup exit that we all saw coming light years away. Perversely, it would be typical Albion to snatch a win this weekend, but I wouldn't put a penny of my money on it; Middlesbrough are a confident side following their promotion and derby win, have added wisely to their squad - Negredo in particular is a stupendous signing - and are a good attacking outfit. Quite simply, we are not going to outplay them. We might get the better of them if we can grab a goal and defend it to the death, but that's pretty much all we can hope for, as ever. And if we lose, the calls for change are only going to get louder and louder. And rightly so. Deadline day looms, and once again, there are some big, big decisions to be made at the Hawthorns. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough - Match Thread - BaggieSteve - 26-08-2016 A great picture and for those of us privileged to be there, to see the great man's league debut and a stunning goal, it was a never to be forgotten day RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough - Match Thread - BaggieMan - 26-08-2016 Quite right Steve! If only Berahino had a brain and a modicum of the moral capacity of Cyrille, he would now be an applauded star with International honours but, he has taken the decision to ruin his career and become the laughing stock of football. I know, Baggieman, that one of the most fun games is "who is the best Albion player you've ever seen?" and it always leads to lots of debate but I have to say that, in 54 years of watching the Baggies, Cyrille is the most complete player I've ever seen in an Albion shirt and to have him now would turn this club around. What you say about Berahino us so true! RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough - Match Thread - boro - 26-08-2016 Hey ![]() Thought I'd pop over here and share this WBA v Boro match preview. The defeat to Fulham seems to have drained some of the positivity from Boro fans, so Aitor Karanka will be keen to bounce back from the poor display. We have injury concerns at left-back. George Friend and new signing Fabio da Silva were both injured at Fulham and they join James Husband on the treatment table. That means there isn’t a fit senior left-back at the club. Alex Baptiste played some games there during pre-season and he filled in for Friend when he was replaced in midweek. Adam Reach is another option but given that he hasn’t even been involved in a match day squad since the start of the season suggests that he doesn’t feature in the manager’s plans. Check out the preview here. Let me know if you have any Boro questions, how we may line up etc ![]() RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 26-08-2016 Tony " bomber" Brown, my all time Albion hero, what a player. But close behind Regis, Cunnigham, Statham, Willie Johnstone, to many to mention, super Bob .......... Robbo (Brian) also Paul Robinson for commitment. The greats I tend to remember and love, the duds I try hard to forget. It is also difficult to compare players from different generations as they have different quality team mates. Sneekes, our Dutch legend ...... I could go on and on ...... Come on you Baggies. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough - Match Thread - Dingle-Dingle - 26-08-2016 West Brom full-back Brendan Galloway will be assessed after suffering a hamstring injury in midweek. Kane Wilson, 16, came on for Galloway against Northampton and may become the first player born in the 21st century to feature in the Premier League. Middlesbrough are short of left-backs, with George Friend missing because of a calf problem and Fabio out with a knee injury. Fit-again defender Daniel Ayala may return to Boro's starting line-up. Ayala's inclusion at centre-back could allow Antonio Barragan to fill in at left-back. Summer signing Bernardo Espinosa may be included in the squad after proving his fitness. Goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielder Marten de Roon are ruled out with hamstring injuries.
