The King - drewks - 30-09-2014

Whow!
Apparently it was 50 YEARS AGO TODAY that Jeff Astle made his debut.
Privileged to say that I remember seeing him, and that great late 60's team, play.

This tribute is absolute magic:

Nice tribute from the Mail. Did we get the same with E&S?

I saw probably 70% of his games for Albion. Great player and proper Working-class Hero.

Not just a working class hero Saft - he was a hero to every Baggie fan irrespective of their background.

Might have said this before, but he presented me with a trophy for player of the season! A great memory!

Quite correct Drewks. His debut at Filbert Street and, although I hardly ever went to away games, on this occasion I was actually there.
Also 50th anniversary of my Ex Wife's last game as a supporter.

Very true, Baggieman, but (I believe) he was an ex-Miner, and socialised with fans in the workingmen's Clubs during the week. My mate often played snooker with him.
