West Brom sale: Jeremy Peace fielding interest from potential buyers

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has been whittling down potential buyers for the club, but rumours a Chinese takeover is imminent are exaggerated.

Peace has received plenty of interest from the Far East, but at this stage he is not yet on the verge of selling his 88% stake in the club.

Peace put the Premier League outfit on sale last year and was close to selling his share for £150m to a Chinese consortium in July 2015 but the deal fell through.

The 59-year- old, who’s been chairman since 2002, still wants between £150-200m for the club.

Although he continues to sound out potential new owners, no deal has been agreed with any of them at this stage.

Peace was aware of Tony Xia, the new Aston Villa owner, before the Chinese businessman bought Albion’s West Midlands rivals for £76.2m. However, Xia was never close to buying the Baggies.

Chinese businessmen have invested more than £460m into European football clubs over the past 18 months, pumping money into several teams including Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, and Inter Milan and so are naturally fueling speculation about West Bromwich Albion.

Hi Stairs Thumb up

Did this link come from the Express and Star...
It's interesting because I have been following this for a couple of Weeks now,
The thought process from others is this was a Journo just jumping on the Band Wagon from other stories.

However If anybody knows Baggie 38 and 78 from.com................
They are very muck ITK and right around 90% of the time.
Im not sure whats going to happen but if you read on .com there is now a up and running thread on the takeover.

Baggie 38 and 78 and fairly certain something will be done VERY soon.

Here was the latest post from today about the takeover and the Journo who wrote the piece on "sounding out" potential buyers.......

I noticed last night the chap from the Express & Star had followed up on the latest rumours and tweeted something along the lines of no takeover being imminent but Peace is still sounding out potential buyers as you would expect. To be fair after what happened last year I don't think the club would make any official comment until a deal is virtually agreed if not even done pending ratification from the authorities.

Quite naive on his part really to bother commenting on it. His sources will be within the club and like you say the club aren't going to confirm anything is going on behind the scenes and it's always going to be difficult to fish out any information close to the potential buyers. I have been informed by my usually reliable friend it could be done within 2-3 weeks it's not imminent but the checks are now on going and it is getting close.

Worth keeping a close on on this no matter what the papers say
These guys have been right before Thumb up

Daily mail saying we want Roger Burden from FA as chairman if the Chinese sale goes through. There's no way they could make that up surely? I think something is closer than is being let on here

I've said it in here previously. JP has undertaken "classic" tax planning of going non-resident (to Jersey) before the 5 April year end, in order to make a potentially tax-free capital gain in this current tax year (although he needs to spend 5 years resident abroad). Given that his only real income source is from the club, with his financial profile it is the ONLY reason why he would have moved to Jersey.

A sale is clearly imminent, although of course it could fall through in which case JP can return to England and go abroad again next March to try again.

I did hear from a mate in Jersey that JP did in fact do exactly the same thing last year, and the anticipate Chinese deal fell through. He seemingly bought his Jersey house well over a year ago.

Nothing is certain, but I'd say a sale this summer is a probability.

On my hols at the moment but found this on twitter last night!!
John Percy has alluded to takeover talks ongoing on Twitter.

"@fentonstokie @Heronman68 @DannyPenfold nothing agreed yet, still talking. Believe west brom have got bigger issues at present (t/o). Sorry!"

(t/o) = take over?

A bit vague sorry on my phone
This was John perry's response when being asked about a transfer
Hence the response bigger things eg t/o
Take over??

Interesting take on transfers and why we are not seeing more action in the market,
Interesting also that the usual reliable Baggie 38 is still saying its the takeover that's holding things up ?? Huh

cheers baggie 38..any idea if there is a takeover cut off date like last year ?

==========================================================================

No idea mate just been told it should be done relatively soon but the club will need to hit the last month of the window hard because while these talks are going on we won't be making any of the bigger signings which people are waiting for us to do. I would suggest not panicking and enjoy the ride.

I have been told today that it's much closer now should be done in the next month. Let's see what happens but I think one thing is for sure the club have learnt from last summer and won't make a announcement until it's completed.

I heard were at a similar stage to wolves but obviously our potential new owner isn't looking to change manager so nothing has leaked.

All well and good - but what this does to transfer dealings is my worry. Should have been done back in June.

RE: Takeover still possible but not currently by a Chinese Consortium Takeover - Worldclassalbion - 11-07-2016

This is typical of the shambolic way things have been run over the last 3 seasons....possible new owner and to late to do anything in the transfer market. Most likely ANOTHER drab season awaits with a real possibility of relegation.

I hope to god I'm wrong as last season was so bad that it was my last until my wife surprised me with a renewed season ticket so got to face it all again.

I wake up every day hoping for some exciting news (New Billionaire owner at WBA, signings imminent) but it never comes. I have been doing this for a long long time so here's hoping tomorrow will be better than today or the day after or the day after......zzzzzzzzz
