Leeann Dempster - in defence of Stubbsy! - 0762 - 14-04-2016

Leeann taking the time out to talk to the media and backing the manager during a period of the season when it's not happening for the team and critical murmurings are not just emanating from the press but they are coming from many Hibs fans as well. Stubbsy had an opportunity, before the upcoming SC semi-final, to manage a good win v Falkirk and the team performance was decent until the last quarter of the match against a side that generally lines up to try and stifle Hibs and they didn't disappoint with the cynical tactics that Houston employed on Tuesday night. Stubbs' tactical role in conceding to another typical 'steal' of a draw to a weakened 10 man side is rightly being questioned in Hibs quarters and no wonder. Hence Dempster's intervention to endorse his position within Hibs FC and what the club and Stubbs himself have achieved so far this season and what they hope to achieve by season end. IMO it's a pivotal moment, leading up to a SC semi-final at Hampden when there is an opportunity to somehow win a one-off cup tie and instil a positive momentum to a Hibs team that keeps 'tripping itself up' in matches that they really should be winning with aplomb v opponents who are not even close to being world beaters that Hibs generally outplay.
IMO we don't have a well balanced side at the moment and it's up to Stubbs to manage the changes in order to remedy that problem. Also it was evident on Tuesday night, when Gray retired from the match, that Hibs are short of a dominant captain and decent leaders on the pitch. The initial lack of organisation, when Gunnarson came on to fill the RB position, was startling and Hibs fans in the stands who could see it clearly certainly responded quick enough. That has to be sorted out and Stubbs must emphasise more assertion by certain players on the pitch - absolutely imperative!! I'd opt for Darren Mac being Hibs captain! I liked his handling of that dirty little c###, Baird, and, at one point in the second half I thought he was gonna banjo him and he would've deserved it too!! Any player that leaves a 'late foot' in a clearance by an opposing player deserves the wrath of the referee or the wrath of the player that he has intentionally tried to hurt - one of the most dangerous challenges in the game and they were randomly doing it all over the pitch!

I hope this week they have worked on ....if you don't win the first ball into the box for god sake win the second. We have lost a number of goals recently in this manner including the second v Falkirk and it is elementary defending.   Doh

Agree with Darren Mac being captain, nobody else is suitable , I know Hanlon has had it in the past but he is not a big enough charachter.

GGTTH

Paul is a quiet lad, not a captain. I wonder if Darren caught up with that wee c### Baird in the Hibs car park at the end of the match exeterhibby lol? Not that I'm brokering such nasty retribution 'if you get what I mean' lol! Laugh

You could tell she wasn't happy, and correctly so. But stubbs has his dreaded "vote of confidence" til the end of the season.

Not the time to think about getting rid.....too disruptive. We have to go with him and his tactics for now, for better for worse. Stubbs will be off at the end of the season irrespective of what the future holds for us.

She sold the 'future plan' and her faith in Stubbsy to shareholders at the AGM and fans of the HSC. She knows ultimately that results matter in this business and lotsa Hibs fans have invested in the club and placed their faith in her postive assurances and ambition.
We'll see how it all transpires in the end but there is still a 'latent fans' opposition' simmering in the background and sadly I think that protest movement will reignite if Stubbs and the board don't get it right. A poss Falkirk gazump on Hibs would be unacceptable in the eyes of many shareholders and fans and rightly so! Thumb down They shouldn't be anywhere near Hibs in a full season and IMO the main reason for their current positive position is Hibs being heavily involved in both cup competitions!
