Cruyff lit up World football just when we thought we'd lost out to the 'midfield runners'. It was all about 'work rate, work rate, work rate' until '74 when he reminded us what The Beautiful Game was all about.
His skills were breathtaking at the time.

So sad when one of your hero's passes away, and he truly was one of mine.
The stand out player of the total football team who invented the modern game but sadly never won the World Cup. Seeing the famous "Cruyff Turn".....well, you could never tire of it could you? His brilliance on the ball was totally unique and years ahead of it's time.
Sad, sad day.

Really sad to hear this news. Taken far too soon by cancer-sticks. I consider myself
lucky to have watched this fantastic player on TV in his prime. It wasn’t just his tricks
on the ball but his sheer athleticism that captivated. You got the feeling that you were
watching a truly athletic, almost balletic, performance. It was a bit like watching David
Emery (the great hurdler) play football in that he seemed to be able to do things that
ordinary mortals could only dream of copying. In modern parlance if you took the skill
of Messi and the physicality of Ronaldo and combined them you would be close to what
he was like at his best.

That's a horrific post not strange. How can you condemn people paying tribute to another human life? Rainbow, do yourself a favour and try to use the little brain power you clearly have to assess whether you're going to offend people before you post your drivel.

I went to the England vs Holland game at Wembley yesterday. Football was not quite up to expectations and team didn't gel too well but there was a very special moment when a little while into the game and whilst play was going on a photograph of Johann Cruyff was displayed on the two large tv screens behind the goals.
As one all in the Stadium stood up and applauded continuously for what seemed like 2 minutes or so and only ceased when the photographs disappeared. A marvellous tribute to the man.
As an aside many years ago I took my son to the Nou Camp as a treat to see Barcelona in action. Queued literally for hours to get tickets only to be told when we got to the ticket office that we were in the wrong queue. The queue we were in was for tickets for the Johann Cruyff testimonial game !! Needless to say our queue was only 3 or 4 deep.
Still the whole weekend was very special.
