One For The "Oldies" Among Us - Arcane Astral Aeons - 14-03-2016 Remember Way Back In The Late 70`s And Possibly Early 80`s Some Guy On BRMB Radio Doing A Sports Programme Every Saturday From 2-6? Tony Butler Was The Guy In Question(Anyone Remember Him?) if i wasnt going to the game i would religiously listen to him, and to be honest looking back now,he came out with really stupid comments. But the guy was a legend there he was reading out some "Dedication" from Mr So And So then suddenly break off "Straight To St Andrews" He Would Shout and the reporter would come back "Throw In To The Blues" Talk About Anti-Climax But the best thing about his "Show" was the after game Phone-In and the irate fans that used to phone in and to prevent swearing(not allowed in those days)from callers he would use that annoying "BRMB RADIO" jingle over the offensive words. I Know I`m Showing My Age And The Younger Posters On Here Will Wonder What I`m On About Anyone Else Remember Him And His Show? RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - wiltshire baggie - 14-03-2016 Ahhhhhhhh those were the days!!! I remember the show well (can only vouch for 1980 - 1982) and if he got peed off with a caller and cut them off he would say "on yer bike". RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - silverbaggie - 14-03-2016 Yes I remember Tony Butler, annoying little sh***e. Cannot remember which Midlands team he favoured but, I don't think it was the Baggies. ![]() RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - 4evaabaggie - 14-03-2016 Didn't he not quote something like the Albion have done it, they've thrashed Oldham like a said they would, after our 1976 promotion clinching 1 - 0 win over oldham. And am I also correct in thinking that he was going to interview Osbourne live on air post match, he took a while to go over to the ground, the match reporter was waiting for ages with ozzy, when he said he was going over to the ground to speak to the reporter, the reporter was mortified, Ozzy got bored of waiting and wanted to celebrate, as he went live the reporter said " tone, tone he's pi##ed off". Ozzy had gone to join in with the others. RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - Beefy 1965 - 14-03-2016 Much to young for me Gareth ![]() RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - Salopbaggie - 14-03-2016 If I remember correctly he a bluenose. It would be interesting to hear his prospective on Midlands football today. As for his phone-in l spent many a happy hour shouting at the radio informing people how stupid they were. RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - bomberbrown1968 - 14-03-2016 Great post Quantum brought loads of memories back. The classic was when one of the "big 6" were losing it was "get yer prayer mats out hail Ron Atkinson hail Ron Saunders etc. 4eva not sure how true that was but it was certainly in Jasper Carrotts stand up routine. And wiltshire the "on yer bike" catchphrase led to his own regional BBC TV programme, Biking Butler where he cycled round parts of the Midlands. I think he also made guest appearances on Central weekend on a Friday night. God I just found myself going back 35 years and I was just a toddler at the time ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - derbybaggie - 14-03-2016 Seem to remember he got sacked from BRMB for attacking another presenter. RE: One For The "Oldies" Among Us - Worldclassalbion - 15-03-2016 He sounded a lot like Tom Ross...........Butler was a Bluenose and was good fun to listen to, if he didn't like what the caller was saying it was ........... 'ON YER BIKE' time ![]() |
